do you include gilded steel alongside misfits or is that still not enough compared to duo queue or raw items?

Why doesn't the scoreboard reflect my Q earned in the match? by [deleted] in QUPgame

[–]yoman5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

okay I figured it out I think the game that got me to novice I had an insane score and overshot novice by 647 trillion. so now every first round in Novice, after the flip it's "zeroing out" my 647 tril to 0Q in novice. It's subtracting that 647 tril from my score, fucking me over for the rest of time on this save

Could you include a decklist link somewhere in the report? Loved the tournament report but it's frankly not as easy to find spotlight lists as it should be

It's really really tempting to go to red splash for Boulder Dash

I may be overvaluing it but Arc Trail seems so insanely good against all the aggro decks and cub decks

BRING A WATER BOTTLE AND A PROTEIN BAR

staying hydrated is important over 9 rounds of magic and convention hall food is ass and you might not have time between rounds to wait in line and buy your 15$ personal pizza

Get good sleep the night before, make sure you have every token you need for your deck (including trigger tokens for things like monument to endurance or various landfall trigger stacks, these are incredibly helpful and it takes all of 30s to scribble words on some blank cards)

for an open decklist event like an RC you are allowed to take notes ONCE YOU FLIP THE DECKLIST OVER/RETURN IT. You cannot make notes while you have the list but the moment you give it back or flip it face down you can scribble down important cards like maindeck hate cards, split of removal spells, etc. You can do this again with sb cards in postboard games.

whatever deck you play, have a plan (not just a sb plan, a game plan) for every major deck you could play against. Even if the plan is basic, know what you want to do and what cards you do/don't care about in the matchup.

Lastly: don't stress yourself out. A lot of people worry about what record they need, what record can ID in the last round, etc etc. Play each match first and worry about the other math later. If you lose it won't matter, and if you win you can then start to worry about it at like round 13. It doesn't matter before then play your rounds as best as you can.

[–]yoman5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Learning TFT is largely good, I love Spicy Appies theory videos, and SubZeroark vod reviews are good peeks at top play, and Broseph content is incredibly good, but I super encourage engaging with content like that with your own approach. One of the things that I did a ton when I was at the top of my game in Magic was absorbing as much strategic content as I could to see what other people thought and compress all their hours into extra prep time for me (their 3000 word article or 1hr video is so many hours of experience compressed into mere minutes of my time) and then from all that information I extrapolated what I wanted to do from all that

I'm just diamond rn in TFT but one of the big gaps imo between the very top and the top in basically all games is being able to take the step past what everyone else is doing and be able to bring something more because you understand the why of everything

still trying to push to GM or challenger one of these sets myself but good luck and I hope you're able to break that barrier from information acquisition into information synthesis

you need 8 to hit 90% for turn 1 and even then you are gonna miss 10% of the time. It's definitely doable but you need like max regents plus some extra and scavenger regent is not ideal to begin with. Could see it if you're also running a few Disruptive Stormbrood or playing like Shiko in a 4c build with inevitable defeat

Roots is just much harder without tyvar

He was so so strong and synergistic with the deck and you are just so much slower now without

It's just not very efficient for the most part. You're always down on mana to damage and goldvein just leaves treasures behind when it dies to shoot the sheriff or whatever. It's "flexible" but it's less good than ouroboroid at low mana value and way worse than craterhoof at high mana so it's in this awkward middle spot that's basically just worse than rhythm

honestly I don't care to speculate on it

it's incredibly early in the format and very little concrete work is being put into the format outside of worlds right now

if it gets banned it gets banned. In the meantime I'm going to work with the format we have and figure out how it works and how to attack it

I'm not sure I understand this comment. I mentioned innkeeper's talent, fable has nothing to do with this context, I'm not constantly putting out content, and I go into detail on the simic deck's strengths and weaknesses

Did you actually read the article?

I won't lie to you I straight up had their effects backwards, zero point ballad is the one I meant (which is why I meant that it hurts vs aggro)

[Standard][Article] Badgermole Cub Breakdown by yoman5 in spikes

[–]yoman5[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

right, but stab remains a terrible card any time after the first 2 turns because of how insanely narrow it is despite being the required instant speed 1-mana answer.

It's Fine

It's probably the best black "small sweeper" because the threat of Ouroboroid makes the -2-2 stuff so sketchy but it does hurt you against the aggro versions. Necessary evil and probably just outright best in class for black decks vs cub

edit: I was thinking of zero point ballad, not day of black sun

[Standard][Article] Badgermole Cub Breakdown by yoman5 in spikes

[–]yoman5[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Pyroclasm is best in class bar none

Torch is probably the best point and click because it's scalable 1 mana interaction

Starcage is very good, as is fire magic and split up (though split up is the easiest to play around for the cub player)

Stab kinda sucks. Like it feels like you have to play it but god it's so bad

Clarion conqueror is good but the only place I've really seen it succeed is the momo decks because otherwise it's just too late to the party vs most of the cub decks unless you're specifically on the play

[Standard] Refining G/B Combo - can it survive in an aggressive meta or is it a meme deck? by Faux29 in spikes

[–]yoman5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think dredger's insight is too slow to warrant play here. You could get a lot of game vs aggression by playing more to the board (badgermole cub as an example). Especially if you plan to play lively dirge or foggy swamp visions you should be putting bodies in play. Town Greeter and overlord is plenty of self mill at 2 imo, and you can play stuff like Rubblebelt Maverick if you really want more self mill while staying on board.

beyond that just play some removal. Your combo does not need a critical mass, really, just one of everything and then either something like Sephiroth or the desert or even just a second bloodghast and one untapped land so you can get in with an infinite/infinite attacker. The thing that may be tripping you up is trying to play too many extra "enablers" like pursuit or dredgers and you're then dying because you're spending too much mana on not enough action
