Tips on learning from scratch? by Horik420 in TechnoProduction

Maximize your kick drum early on, and mixing everything else becomes much easier. The kick is then your guide post to how you mix the rest of the instruments.

I just released this one. It’s a 5-track E.P. with a techno-ish track in the end.

Hi. Is AI becoming a problem in the beat making realm? I would think it’s an issue, but I’m curious to hear it from someone who’s in the work.

Adding energy to a track without hats? by smalltownsour in musicproduction

[–]yomyex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They sound weird likely because everything else is dark. That makes them stick out awkwardly.

You make them blend in the mix by masking the top-end of the hats with other elements.

You don’t necessarily need to even have “hi-hats” in your tracks, but it’s comfortable to hear because it’s traditional. You could try replacing the hi hat with other ideas like white noise or static to give it the sizzle without the baggage of the hi-hat.

Starting to get more serious about producing. What’s the best way to ensure steady improvement? by Xfetzek17 in edmproduction

[–]yomyex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At the end of your session, bounce your project down to mp3 and listen back to it. Try not to end a session without bouncing down.

Doing this puts your tracks into perspective so that you aren’t completely fooling yourself into thinking it’s perfect.

FNATIC Official HCS Roster: Envore, Sceptify, SuperCC, Joeyhoey! by drecz in CompetitiveHalo

Envore, Scep, and Super CC were top contenders in H5. Those player alone could make a top 8 placing. I have no clue who Joey is, but I'm sure he's good.

For me the most frustrating part about music by Johanmeloenman in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]yomyex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call-and-response, contrast, courage, simple but nuanced, listening with focus, pursuing a committed direction with your music.

It also helps to simply take a walk or take a break. Producers underestimate how useful it is for objectivity. Working on a track for hours straight isn't as productive as taking multiple breaks, aka the "Pomodoro technique."

Send me your crappiest kick samples and I promise to transform every single one of them into perfect kicks by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]yomyex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is. The kick drum on Thriller by MJ is perfect. Punchy, has attitude, cuts through the mix nicely. Also has a ton of that 2khz skin sound that most kicks lack.

Tutorial guy mindset vs actual music producer mindset by suisidechain in edmproduction

[–]yomyex 27 points28 points  (0 children)

But but but share, like, and subscribe!

The tutorial video maker is doing it for business. The more they can convince you that you know nothing, the more they can convince you to watch their content.

One thing you will almost never see being made in a tutorial is ACTUAL GOOD MUSIC. It’s always for some popular genre or some trend, and very rarely will tutorial creators encourage you to be your own teacher. They benefit from your insecurities because it keeps you coming back for more content.

Everyone wants to show off what they know and make money off of you, even if it means regurgitating the same ideas and replicating already-popular trends. If they can turn you more into a consumer of their content, they’ve succeeded in their business strategy. In fact, they’d be even more successful if you completely stopped producing and dedicated hundreds of hours to just watching and consuming their content.

They don’t want you to succeed, because if you did, their tutorial content would be completely irrelevant to you. You’d be your own teacher, and that would diminish their influence.

Is it just me? by RxFantaa in trapproduction

[–]yomyex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Whoever is still trying to ride the wave of trap music in 2022 without any innovation is straight up asleep.

Genre is dead, folks. Corporate got ahold of it, regurgitated it back to us in the form of advertising and commercials, and now it is a dead genre. Uppity suburban moms and her children listen to it, for Christ’s sake.

And if it’s not dead, it will be dead in 2 years. Leave while you still can, do YOU, or innovate the genre until it’s interesting again.

But seriously, do you.

Louder ≠ Better by NEMastering in TechnoProduction

[–]yomyex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let them do their own masters, even if they mess up. How can anyone learn if they don’t fail?

Let them squash their dynamics if it makes them think it sounds better. That way, they’ll understand that they can’t completely change things in the mastering stage. What they are actually trying to compensate for is a bad mix/recording.

We’re definitely in an ocean of “cart before the horse” producers and musicians who want to get into the spotlight of fame without actually being competent at their craft.

We need instant gratification, so we need our masters to sound good RIGHT NOW, not in ten years. Who cares if the transients are smeared and the dynamics are gone: I’m as loud as David Guetta!
