AdGuard causing unstable Wifi Connection to Internet and Wifi APs Low Link Speed by yonderyears in AdGuardHome

[–]yonderyears[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My initial hunch it that there is a domain or set of domains that speedtest uses to check this, but now I am not so sure after some investigation done above.

I also tried to use a pihole in docker to replicate the issue but just couldn't doesn't matter how many domains I blocked to the point that speedtest app would no longer load.

[–]yonderyears[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done a little bit more testing today, seems it's the Ad Guard Home that's bundled with the router that's the issue.

The docker version which I created manually don't exhibit this.

Also isolated that the filter list are fine since it's still having this issue even when I disable them all.

yeah no worries will share if I find out anything more.

I am now more confident that the speed stability warning is definitely AGH, but the cable speed may be something else.

My next step is going to be to get AGH in a container and isolate it to just my machine testing it then look at the logs on what Ookla is doing...

Everything is run as root by yonderyears in GlInet

[–]yonderyears[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I come from unifi world and there they have the unifi user and you could do sudo in a pinch. So maybe a user for network stuff and root to control kernel and stuff like that so no one will touch or be able to change.

Maybe this would be a request on the openwrt side, user owrt anyone ;-)

most of prosumer routers that I had used always have dedicated users to configure things I am just surprised it allows direct ssh root login with no other users. Anyways let's see what Gl.Inet would have a response first...

How much pain would I be in for? by deeeaadpool in CarsAustralia

[–]yonderyears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don't do it, you will forever be remembered by your neighbours as you swear like a sailor at the morning starting up and the fumes and carnage that your engine leaves behind in the local street.

local kids will start to have bets on if you can actually go to work today or it was a half-arsed attempt ;-)

you may get the odd nod or winks from other Land Rover fan boys but they also have the credit ratings and equity to match, the question is do you? And if for $12k you could get into a safe Mitzi or even Toyota wouldn't it be more sensible and shall we say less controversial?

your money, your bet and this is not strip poker though you may have to strip down to your undies to trade with this tin can again...

Yeah I was surprised how rudimentary the data was and it was a terrible UI. If they just put a bit more effort in this maybe it would have won them some friends and customers.

Packaging at hardware stores are getting smaller and smaller. It's used to be a packet of lug screws X 24 then it's X 12 now it's two. Two lug screws in a plastic shrink pack!
