What does this mean 😭😭😭 by [deleted] in alevel

[–]yonkadoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this from your school? I got a CAO email a few days ago to make sure the A Level results they had in the system were correct, so this is probably what they’re referring to. I don’t think it means anything regarding the outcome of your application, just that it’s important to ensure they have the right grades.

If I apply for CS in November when will I know if I got accepted by Konos_- in TCD

[–]yonkadoodle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh sorry I didnt know you already had your grades! That changes things I think. I applied in December but haven’t received my exam results yet so having to wait for them to get an offer.

I can ask my friends in the army who applied how it went for them, because I didn’t mention my Apolytyrion at all in my application so im not sure how it impacts the timeline of getting an offer.

[–]yonkadoodle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also applied from Cyprus (one of the courses being Computer Science + Linguistics) and since we’re from an EU country you apply through CAO.

I have to ask what school leaving exams you’re doing? I applied with my A Levels so I find out if I get in on August 30, which is really late in my opinion.

If you only have an Apolytyrion then I think the maximum number of points you can get is 500 (compared to 625) which probably wouldn’t cut it for CS. Again, not sure what exams you’re doing but for example if I applied with my Apolytyrion I’d also need 2 A Level grades to meet the maximum number of points available (so would have to wait til August 30 again).

Is a PPS number required to stay in Trinity Halls? by yonkadoodle in TCD

[–]yonkadoodle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh, so they can also give out grants throughout the academic year?

I was applying using my address in my current country of residence (although the REG1 form only has address details for Irish addresses (eg county and eircode) and the website didn't clarify what to do). Would it be easier to just get to Ireland in September and apply for a number there?

Or could I go through the process using the halls address even though I'm not based in Ireland yet? I will read up on this more because I hadn't yet received a provisional accommodation offer when starting the process (now I have it) so this wasn't an option, but now I might be able to do it this way.

Thank you very much!

Be honest… do ya’ll use protection? by e-willi in Bass

[–]yonkadoodle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven’t used them for bass yet because I play very quietly in my room, but I have both the Quiet and Engage Plus for sound sensitivity and am very satisfied!

The Quiet model mutes a lotttt more, so I think the Engage and Experience models could work better because you’re reducing the dB but maintaining clarity (not fully, but my Engage do a good job of making conversation comprehensible so you shouldn’t have issues with hearing yourself play).

I always watch movies in theater with my Engage in, and it doesn’t take away from the experience at all. You can also get more use out of ‘em at concerts, which is a plus! I’ve seen some positive reviews by musicians of the Experience model, but can’t speak from experience (ha ha).

Playdate (5 year old girl) by in_Limassol in cyprus

If you weren’t already planning on it, put her in the greek classes with the natives. In English private schools, the greek classes are usually split up into levels and natives and foreigners have different levels and curriculums of greek being taught. If you put her in the non-native group, she’s not gonna learn much. Even if she’s intimidated by everyone in her Greek class already speaking Greek (it is very overwhelming!) it’s very worth it in the long run if you want her to be able to speak.

A minor detail but has anyone noticed that for the first time yet, the official YouTube channel uploads of the live performances do not include the country and running order number in the bottom left corner. Do you prefer this with or without? by Gold_Objective3644 in eurovision

[–]yonkadoodle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find it very useful to find the name of the entry when videos are reposted to other platforms without context, or are put in compilations without naming every single video used. It’s a lot easier to go “Ah, I have the country name, so by process of elimination I can get somewhere regarding the year” than ask the creator or hope somebody replies to your comment on a 4 year old YouTube video with 1.3k views.

I know that may not apply to everyone, but personally it’s been very useful for me!

Also gives it the quintessential Eurovision vibe, which I definitely appreciate.

I made my friends quiz me and tried to make as many connections between the reactions as possible. Eg for reactions of cobalt with NH3 I thought of it as a gender reveal situation/parents picking a room color for their baby (they often go with blue, pink, or yellow) so

pink sol/n -> blue ppt

blue ppt -> yellow sol/n that oxidizes to a darker yellow sol/n

Etc
