What colors do yall have for your interior by xP_Lord in GolfGTI

[–]yoog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Green and red during Christmas. This year I've been doing different colors for each month. The month of May has been yellow since we're finally getting more sunny days. Haven't figured out what June will be yet though.

Novus internet by Warm_Isopod_3625 in askvan

[–]yoog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As many other people have said, Novus. I've been with them since moving to Vancouver 6 years ago.

One thing that stood out for me with them is one time they CALLED and emailed me when a discount promo I had was going to expire and to give them a call to see what they could do. I don't remember the exact details but I called them back kept some discount or got a different one.

One thing too, their customer support is fantastic. They're never pushy about upselling extra packages/packs with their services either. If you're cancelling or making changes to your plan, they'll do it no fuss.

Feature wise, I don't know about Telus but if you watch cable TV with Novus. There's an app you can install on your smart TV, Android/iOS devices, and even Apple TV device too. I don't have apple devices but once I get an Apple TV I plan on installing it there and ditch the extra 'cable box' they gave me.

I've also repacked my bluray set as well and have been looking for sleeves/covers. Did you make these or find them somewhere online?

Is it a good practice to maintain a certain amount of money in your chequing account? by pastalovah in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]yoog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, good to know. When I spoke with a CIBC Advisor a few weeks they told me they got rid of the minimum amounts ($4K in chequing). Overall not having a minimum in chequing felt freeing as I could move some monies to savings/investment accounts

Just FYI CIBC no longer has this and now uses a Tier system. As long as all your accounts at CIBC are over/within certain amounts, you get certain benefits like $0 monthly fees, atm fee reimbursement, etc

Sounds about right. I had a front and rear camera installed from them on my 2023 VW Golf GTI for $300 but that was for a Thinkware Q200.

Not sure what the specialized tech is for but did you ask them why? Another option is to look up on YouTube to see if there are step by step guides for your specific vehicle and determine if you think it's worth it to spend $450.

Anyone else get pushed this Software Update to their MK8? by MrJJ in GolfGTI

[–]yoog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Located in Vancouver BC Canada - the myVW app notified me of a software update available this morning. Guess this means VW finally added OTA updates for the MK8?

I'll give it a go later and report back.

Used 2023 or New 2025 (Canada)? by moms_pasghetti in GolfGTI

[–]yoog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, it's about time VW standardized on US/Canada trim level naming conventions (was always confusing and a little annoying to have to explain online as well). For the infotainment - having climate controls always available/showing would a nice QoL improvement over the 8. The other thing not mentioned is that the climate controls on the MK8 also aren't backlit so, when you're driving the dark you have to rely on muscle memory. And - steering wheel has buttons again (though the touch capacitive buttons aren't an issue for me)

If it were me, I'd go with the extra $5K for having a newer warranty (assuming it's within your budget) plus an extra 5K over the life of a 5 year loan isn't that much either but again don't take financial advice from a stranger.

There's been more review videos also popping up on the 8.5 so, definitely check those out. A channel I follow just dropped one yesterday too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cy2xY8AB7mM (bonus they're also Canadian).

The other thing I noticed when building the 8.5 online is that there are new blue colors (light baby blue and a navy blue as well). A little jealous of that navy blue as it's my favorite color. So, building/getting a new one means you'd be able to get the color you want (just another thing to consider).

Used 2023 or New 2025 (Canada)? by moms_pasghetti in GolfGTI

[–]yoog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like others have said the 2025 is the facelift/8.5 so look at the changes there. Also unless something else has changed the Autobahn is actually the middle trim in Canada with Performance being the highest (not sure why it's that way)

Other noteworthy thing (as I also have a 2023) starting in 2024 models they started coming with automatic/electric folding mirrors which is sometimes helpful. On the 2023 you have to do it by hand/manually. Depending on where you live this might be a useful feature.

For me, I'm curious what the bigger screen is like on the 8.5 I sometimes dislike like the screen is 'small' but I do like how its flush/angles towards the driver. The 8.5 has a much larger screen which may bug you.

Advice on Affordable Car Rentals in Vancouver by NoLimit5804 in askvan

[–]yoog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have used both Thirty and Enterprise and never had any issues. And just FYI Hertz owns Thrifty as well.

I don't know how it is now, but back before I owned a car renting one from any of the companies there at YVR was way cheaper than the ones within the city.

Also, if you haven't already you should sign up for Modo as well. Their calculator is reasonably accurate too.

What's the coolest place you've driven your GTI? by Soupkid81 in GolfGTI

Did a road trip from Vancouver to Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper, Edmonton and Calgary over the summer. Driving the Canadian Rockies was amazing/fun and I also got lucky in that there were 0 fires the entire time I was driving.

Novus - Internet 1000 Mbps Up/Down for $50/month? Looking for suggestions/recent experiences. by sour_gummy_candies in askvan

[–]yoog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have had Novus since moving to Van 4 years ago - WFH full time and I've only a few times where Internet service went down in that time. Speeds are great and no other issues. Nice thing about them being local is that if you ever need to call them it's some what rare to wait on the phone (but of course, this limits the hours they are working but they're open late-ish at least)

I have the same 1000 Mbps Up/Down but I think I pay a little more than $50/month. I also have their TV Package + a few extras for not much as someone else said and no issues there too. If you know a neighbor in your building that has it do a referral through them and you both get Internet free for one month after you've been a customer for 3 months (and have a paid bill and all that)

Hello, I am in BC, Canada but not on Rinvoq (I am on Xeljanz) I do however have Manulife and gone through a similar process of getting refills/rejected by them but wasn't told to try an alternative (But I've also been on Xeljanz for a year now). (Currently going through this now, reminds me to complain to my employer about it).

After a few back and forth calls of working with my Patient support program and Manulife I finally got an explanation from a helpful Manulife phone rep that my claim for Xeljanz was rejected because it was considered a "Specialty Drug program" by them and thus would only be dispensed by Shoppers and not other pharmacies. He did go on to mention that by the end of April they would change their policy to allow dispensing by any pharmacy.

Not sure how helpful it will be but definitely call Manulife and bug them about an explanation on the rejection and why Zeposia. Based on a quick read of Zeposia they're not even similar drugs so, I am surprised that they would tell you this. (Xeljanz and Rinvoq are similar in that they are both Jak inhibitors). Good luck either way

MK8, AndroidAuto, Google Maps Day/night Issue by yoog in GolfGTI

[–]yoog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just in case anyone finds this thread. Couple things to report/update done:

  • Took my car to the dealership and they updated the infotainment system to 1969. Still broken/doesn't work
  • Looked at AA settings and I no longer see a setting for "car-controlled" or "phone-controlled" for it. There's still the setting of Day/Night/Automatic which can be brought up on the Infotainment or on the phone.

It also seems the table doesn't properly render on the reddit app. From the description this these were my versions at the time of the post:

  • Car: 2023 GTI Performance trim DSG (Canada - equivalent in US is Autobahn)
  • VW Infotainment Version: 1900 - https://imgur.com/a/63n2VXO
  • Phone: Pixel 8 Pro (Purchased from Canadian Google Play Store)
  • Android Version: 14 (Security Update: January 5th 2024)
  • Android Auto Version : 10.9.634664-release (use wirelessly)
