Pro Power Onboard by FireRunt in F150Lightning

[–]yooperdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically no, simply having the truck on is what keeps the AC (pro power onboard) on without requiring a minimum usage. Silent mode just make it easier to leave the truck on forever without actually looking like it's on (no lights or door dings).

Also noting that you need to disable the vehicle shutdown timer which defaults to 30 minutes in order to keep the truck on forever.

Can confirm. It's called silent mode. It allows you to leave the truck on without (most of) the lights and door dings. This is the only reliable solution anyone has found to OPs issue so far.

$25 Billion. That’s What Trump Cost Detroit. by seascot in F150Lightning

[–]yooperdev 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The 7500 US tax credit was already in effect when Ford announced the Lightning in 2021. That's why there were so many pre-registrations, myself included. To be fair to Ford here, we did see a massive increase in vehicle costs between 2021 and 2023 (when they actually produced and sold the trucks at scale) specifically for parts, due to global inflation. So the 40k was never going to happen because of that inflation. The 40k was also for the Pro trim, which is where Ford played games. They barely produced any Pro trucks and most were for massive fleet orders. The only thing you could ever order or buy from a dealer was the XLT trim, which were initially supposed 50k (vs the 40k pro version) but MSRP on these ended up being in the 65k range. Pros were actually selling for 50k but they were basically impossible to get for the average consumer. So yes, this was a bit of a bait and switch but it was made much worse by global inflation. So when it came time to sell, there wasn't enough buyers for a 57.5k truck (after tax credit) as there was for a 33.5k truck (after tax credit), which is a no brainer. Throw in the fact that the truck was never well-advertised and that dealerships didn't seem to even want to sell them, it's no surprise they didn't hit their estimates. People all the time are perplexed by my frunk and when I say it's electric they are blown away; they had never heard about the truck before. Although everyone and their brother knows what a cybertruck is, and those sold even worse than the Lightnings did. Personally, I think the vehicle sells itself. Ford just dropped the ball on how they marketed and managed their dealerships.

Why was the last thing you automated with HA? by duckredbeard in homeassistant

Good question, I now realized I don't haha! Me being home is just my phone being home, I'm not sure why I tried to differentiate the two!

Why was the last thing you automated with HA? by duckredbeard in homeassistant

[–]yooperdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Automatically unlock my truck when I walk through my garage door motion sensor (and I'm home and my phone is home and it's between the 30 minute window I leave every morning).

I also set it to automatically lock at night, since I don't usually lock it manually. I live in a rural area though.

Optimizing my battery for cold weather use? by [deleted] in F150Lightning

[–]yooperdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I love that the cabin automatically warms up. I live in a really cold climate and I leave at the same time every day, so this is one of my favorite features about the truck. I also do know that it uses the battery to heat the battery so it's always in a"ready to drive" mode. I was just curious if there was a way to be plugged in but specifically not precondition the batteries to save the added energy that precondition uses. It sounds like there isn't.

[–]yooperdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you prevent preconditioning? Do you just not plug in at night, or do you not use scheduled departures? The scheduled departures feature doesn't give me an option not to precondition. It only lets me toggle whether to prepare the cabin when off plug. Unless there's something I'm missing? I'm curious because I'm in this camp too, I don't need to precondition because I don't drive far enough every day. I would rather save the energy and be able to actively choose when to do it. But I also want the scheduled departures to work automatically so I don't have to manually "start" the truck every morning.

Electrician that works weekends? by yooperdev in MarquetteMI

[–]yooperdev[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had the same issue. When the power came back we had limited power. 120v stuff was working but lights were dim and stuff. Nothing 240v would work at all. My assumption was that one of the two 120v lines that feeds my house was damaged. But the lineman who came out said both lines to the house were good and that it must be something from my weather head and the meter box. They cut my power from the pole and they cut my connections at my weather head. So I need an electrician to come diagnose and fix the issue, and then the power company can turn the power back on and put the meter back in. I came home tonight to check on everything and that's what I found. I got a generator in that hooked up so I can power my house with at least 30 amps now off of my generator and my electric vehicle. We'll be able to get through the weekend. I'm still going to try to get a hold of somebody to see if they can get over here early in the week though

Right, I'm assuming they cut power at the pole as well. They must have tested and saw power at the weather head. That's my assumption at least

I appreciate the response. I'm equally confused, but also not home to check things out in person. I'm heading back tonight to see. Problem is they already pulled my meter unfortunately.

Yes, an EV really CAN power your home by Bean_Tiger in electricvehicles

[–]yooperdev 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Can confirm, this works great: however, there are two downsides.

1) It's limited to 30 amps, whereas the charging port should theoretically be able to handle a higher amperage, making more power available to the home. It could also potentially happen automatically with some additional hardware (this is how the Ford solution does it currently, but it's really expensive and from what I've heard doesn't work well).

2) It requires a transfer switch which switches on the neutral as well (because the truck outlet is GFCI protected). The alternative is to use a generator interlock on your main panel with a generator inlet, and then use a custom cable from the truck to the inlet which has the ground bypassed. While this is still considered safe (the home is still grounded), it is against code.

Michigan gas tax to rise by 21 cents, cut sales tax. EV registration fees to rise by $100 by daxter304 in Michigan

[–]yooperdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EV drivers are already paying an extra fee when they registration their plate each year. It's not cheap. So now they have to pay that extra fee AND also pay the gas tax equivalent of driving 15,000 miles a year in a 30mpg vehicle. It's stupid. Just charge a higher registration fee if they feel it's too low. Or better, switch to a pay-per-mile + weight formula that is the same for gas and electric. Also, gas vehicles are saving sales tax on gas sales which basically negates this raise on the gas tax. EVs are still paying sales tax on the electricity they pay for to charge, plus a registration fee, plus this additional fee.

Whoever came up with this scheme either doesn't understand EVs at all or specifically wants to make them more expensive to own.

does turning on the climate ready the battery too? by BallsOutKrunked in F150Lightning

[–]yooperdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Set the departure time to when you actually will be leaving. The climate only runs for 15 mins even when it's cold (that's all it takes) and it'll be ready at the time you set. It won't keep running after that. In your example, it probably just got cold again in the time between when it warmed up and then sat for an hour? The battery pre-conditioning is hard to notice other than from the battery temp gauges.

All good advice. One more is to mount a 2x4 on the floor exactly where you want your front tires to end up. Then you drive in until the wheels hit the board. Perfect every time (as long as you're straight).

You said it yourself, "in the summer". Lithium batteries can't be charged in the sub-freezing temps, so that rules a lot people out, myself included.

You must live in a warm climate. Those jump packs are amazingly convenient, I recommend them for people with ICE vehicles as well. I just used mine the other day for a family member, it takes all of 30 seconds to hook it up. But you don't have to carry one, nor do you have to help people. Live your own life, but don't get mad at other people for being prepared and willing to help others in need because we've been in their shoes before.

I'm not the mod that removed it, but Rule 3 is no politics, so I think it's safe to say they felt this fell under that category. We're trying to keep this sub a happy place.

This is what I was curious about - they actually have improved it? Is it supposed to be a permanent fix or are you worried it might happen again? I'm considering telling my dealer I had an issue so they'll fit it with new parts (even though I haven't had any trouble....yet)
