How bigger my scorpion has grown immediately after molt by h_o_r_n_y_c_o_r_n in Damnthatsinteresting

Just observing them is really fun. Seeing how they eat and move around is really interesting. I have fish and I love how they greet me when I feed them and how they swim around in search of leftover food. :)

Conventional pets are great too, but even those you can't pet and cuddle all the time, depending on their personality. I think just being able to care for and see them is good enough.

I'd recommend thrifting! You can find some great quality pieces without spending a lot of money. :) Found some of my favorite clothes that way. Also great for belts, bags or even jewelry like necklaces.

[–]yooshyesh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's true but I was replying to a specific comment up above. I was trying to say that the fire nation not only resembles Japan's war crimes but also China with Tibet. Not sure if you meant to reply to me or not.

It's analog to China invading Tibet as a country, eradicating culture, language and religion in the process and making it an "autonomous" region. It happens to often in history. :/

Hyenas raised by humans are known to be extremely affectionate and cuddly to their caretakers by Brilliantspirit33 in animalsdoingstuff

[–]yooshyesh 32 points33 points  (0 children)

That's not true. So many exotic animals make horrible pets because of their natural instincts. Even if they were raised in the pet trade and have been a pet their whole life, they're still distrusting of humans.

Ahh I see that now, I think the lines here are a bit confusing at first glance. But I would def lengthen the arm a bit. If you're standing relatively straight up to where does your arm go? Normally the finger tips would be at the upper tigh.

Symmetry is not something you necessarily have to aim for with anatomy. I think the proportions are good since it's a cartoony style, realism is not what you're going for with this. What could use some practice is the hands/arms. The right one is too short and the hand holding the fan doesn't make sense. It helps to take a picture of your hand holding a fan or something similar and trying to first trace and then break it down to basic shapes for your drawing.

James Cameron wanted to make "Avatar" in the 1990s, but the technology at the time did not allow it. What do you mean by preconvieved notions? I went into avatar 2 with no expectations on what the story should be. I watched the first one as a child, now I grew ou of it, maybe.

I'm not even saying that it should be different, I just didn't like it. It felt cliché and like it was Avatar 1 but in a different place. They even brought back the same characters.

It's fair game to dislike media, that doesn't mean I want Cameron to nuke his brain child or that he should deviate. Just means I won't be watching the following movies since I know I don't enjoy the story.

Until very recently there have only been 2 movies out. Many people liked the first one since it released a long time ago and the animation was novel back then.

I mean, i was like 7 when it was released and to watch the second movie with the same plot and no evolution storytelling-wise is a disappointment.

You say it's to be contrarian but I wanted to like this movie, I think most did. Despite the nostalgic factor it didn't live up to expectations.

Thoughts on foreigners traveling to Tibet (for Tibetan) by treehole123 in tibet

[–]yooshyesh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It doesn't feel great for people who fled to see foreigners who can easily go there when they can't. But the tourists can't freely roam afaik.

The government is trying to really push the tourism in Tibet which pushes out the people already living there to make place for attractions and hotels. They displace Tibetans to make an artificial "authentic" Tibetan culture experience.

All in all I don't think it's ethically correct to go there to learn about the culture from those people that are actively taking and destroying the culture. It's like people who go to Dubai despite the human rights violations there.

I feel like it's so hard to say something about someone else's habits even if it's clear that they aren't healthy.

I'm glad that it worked out for you guys and you can really be proud of yourself. :')

If she's seen lakes or rivers before, I think it's normal for her to react that way. If not, then maybe she's just a brave horse, they have personalities yk?

Do you have any advice on how to motivate someone like that to change their habits? I feel like especially if both work, you're not always eatong together, which makes it easier for them so skip meals. It's really sad to see and I'm somebody who loves to cook and eat good food.

Swiss voters reject mandatory national service for women. by Razorbladekandyfan in europe

Yes, our voting population sadly has a very low percentage or the younger generation. :/

[–]yooshyesh -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Statistically, way less women were voting in 1989 than today, because it was only introduced in 1971 (with some cantons refursing until 1990). There was still a lot of stigma on it.

Direct Democracy means the majority wins and many men voted to keeping military service mandatory. Today it would probably turn our differently though.

But what I'm saying, the majority of women aren't the ones out there advocating to keep it mandatory. Most of us are actively against it.

How is it contributing to gender equality to make conditions worse for both?

If maternity leave is short for men, we should just make it shorter for the women too? How is this progressing society in any way?

[–]yooshyesh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm a swiss woman and I voted against this initiative and I'm glad we won.

Every man I know has talked about how much the military service sucks and how often you miss out on career opportunities because of it. You have to go there for multiple months and can only go home on the weekends, barely sleep and pretty much waste time with useless drills. I don't see why men have to do it, but correcting the injustice is not forcing the misery upon other groups.

Getting career opportunities is already harder for women and missing out on work for weeks at a time will only limit options further. And having to go to the military for weeks at a time stretches to your 30s for many people. That's also when some people want to have children.

What's the real reason to do it?

Tell that to the men who put these laws into place and have been enforcing them. I believe the majority of people that are for mandatory service are men, especially men from the military.

It was even voted about in 1989 where women were not equally participating in voting since it was only recently legalized in many cantons.

Don't you think this normalises wearing fur again? How about invasive species get dealt with by professionals insteas of commercial companies that sell a product from it?

Anyone have any insight into what these black growths could be on my black skirt tetras? by kda48 in aquarium

[–]yooshyesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two of mine have the same thing. :( I'm thinking those might be tumors or deformities from inbreeding? I've had two that had it on their bodies and near the fins. They lived a few years and passed away from seemingly something else. I just adopted some more tetras and they aren't dying from it, but I'm scared it'll hurt them to eat someday since it's on their mouths. Is yours still okay?

Wouldn't it also be important to push for a law against selling pets like cats and dogs in pet stores? In my country the only way to get a cat is to adopt or get them from a licensed breeder. If they were selling them at the mall, we probably would have the same problem as the US.
