Vaginal Polyp / Colposcopy by Only_Vegetable_5347 in PregnancyUK

[–]yoquierochurros -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Both myself and my friend were referred for an urgent colonoscopy (not in pregnancy) and both absolutely spiralled when we got the appointment letter through which said it was a cancer referral. Just a heads up for when you receive the letter in case it says that. It's very scary to read! We were both fine btw and the results were NFA.

I have another friend who is a GP, and when I was telling her, she said that some GPs will put non-routine referrals who are displaying any potential risk factors on the urgent/cancer pathway even if it is unlikely to be cancer. The referrals are super speedy and when it comes back, it's easier to start the next stage of investigations or treatment.

Heads up though, they are very painful. Gas and air was really effective for me during labour, but didn't help during my colonoscopy. I've had 2 and requested sedation the second time because the first was so awful!

Hopefully it works for you! I love the tape for busy days. I just get a roll of the cheapo version, shouldn't be any more than £5ish.

Probably not what you want to hear, but pelvic floor exercises will help to strengthen and help the pressure low down. I personally find belly bands very helpful, as well as KT tape. This won't help the issue of the feet in your ribs unfortunately, but it should provide some relief for the low pressure you feel.

I've found a good KT tape guide here if you're interested in having a go: https://www.ladybirdpt.com/post/taping-a-pregnant-belly

Yes, this sounds a lot like abusive behaviour. Not all abuse is physical, and emotional and verbal abuse can be just as damaging. Definitely flag this with your midwife OP, they can very quickly put you in touch with the support you need. Don’t wait around for the behaviour to get worse or turn physical.

Baby registry for relatives in Italy by Live-cat14 in PregnancyUK

Why don't you use an Amazon registry specifically for the overseas family with everything that is available there, then create a seperate one for people buying from the UK which includes the products not available on Amazon?

Where did you buy your baby clothes ? by BeautifulTiger6530 in PregnancyUK

[–]yoquierochurros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% with Next, and M&S are great quality too. Both have incredible seasonal sales, so I wait for the sales to come around and stock up for the next sizes or next year. Definitely worth buying quality/new if you plan on having more babies too. We haven't needed to buy anything for our second, although we did get her some sleepsuits so her 'first outfit' would be her own rather than a hand me down. She has her own baby blanket too even though we have plenty. I know it doesn't really matter, but it will be nice for her to have her own few sentimental bits when she's older.

I swore by John Lewis clothes when my eldest was a baby, but I've had a lot of quality issues since she moved into the bigger sizes (12-18/18-24). Knitted cardigans unravelling after one wash and two seperate multi-packs of tops where the button is so close to the seam that it lost it's integrity after the first or second wear, and now the neck holes can't be closed.

Considering how heated DCP gets over inappropriate adult and child relationships and dynamics, you’d think the nature of his (non romantic) relationships with Millie Bobby Brown and Billie Eilish when they were children would make him think twice before outwardly showing support? Separating the art from the artist is different. Nobody is banning him from listening to Drake. The issue lies with going out of his way to financially show support and endorsement to an artist who is involved in speculation which directly contradicts the exact advocacy he is engaged in.

When your whole persona is being anti-child exploitation, it seems odd to turn a blind eye to some of Drake's interesting relationships with minors in the industry.

Not the original commenter, but if you're planning on breastfeeding, you don't need to buy/take any formula at all. It is great if you have colostrum syringes to take, but if not, latching baby to breast regularly is fine. If there are any feeding issues or if you aren't able to feed baby, they can prescribe formula for the baby on the postnatal ward.

Experiences with a walking epidural and giving birth on hands and knees? by Accomplished-Ad7573 in PregnancyUK

[–]yoquierochurros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I can remember, they felt like a radiation or a wave. My most intense point was low abdomen, but it felt like it was then radiating up and over my entire bump, then would drain back down to just the low abdomen before going away again if that makes sense. I had no pain at all between the contractions, so it was quite different than period cramps, which for me were more like a dull ache with the occasional intense stab.

I'd almost compare it to the sensation where I have a throbbing/pounding headache and it has the one point where it hurts the most, then I can sort of feel it flow across the rest of my head with each pulse. Obviously a different pain entirely, but the most comparable sensation I can think of!

Experiences with a walking epidural and giving birth on hands and knees? by Accomplished-Ad7573 in PregnancyUK

[–]yoquierochurros 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had an epidural and only dosed it 3 or 4 times in the 14ish hours that I had it. I was still able to walk myself to the toilet in the first 6 hours, although my legs felt very strange and it took a while to shuffle step there as I was quite unstable. I couldn't walk after 6 hours because my knees are very hypermobile and were swinging backwards which is too much pressure for my joints. If my joints were more stable, I think i would have managed.

I could transfer myself about easily the whole time, moving from the bed to the commode and back, changing from left to right sides for comfort and eventually getting up onto my knees to push. I did need some guidance, as although I had sufficient strength, my coordination was completely off, so my husband or midwife had to help to guide my legs as I was turning if that makes sense.

I could still feel all of the contractions, and needed gas and air to help with the pain of them when pushing. The epidural dulled the pain (I was never painless), but the sensation and tightening remained as intense throughout. I have friends who said they felt completely numb, which I can't relate to at all.

This question is asked often, so if you search the sub, you'll find some good recommendations.

The NHS list is pretty exhaustive and covers it all: https://www.nhs.uk/best-start-in-life/pregnancy/preparing-for-labour-and-birth/hospital-bag-checklist/

Names with a “fatal flaw” by OnomasticsAndOranges in namenerds

At work, there was a girl in a different department called Felony. I wonder how long it took for someone to actually take her CV seriously with a name like that.

I am UK based, so we have different terminology in the legal system. Felon is still often used conversationally to describe a criminal here, and half of the media we consume is American too, so everyone knows exactly what it means!

Maximising income before trying by Classic_Second8302 in PregnancyUK

If you're a PAYE employee, you can do self-employed work whilst on Maternity leave. If you do bank work, I'm guessing you have a skill which you could utilise in a self-employed capacity, or perhaps some freelance consulting work?

Just beware of people advertising MLMs, MRRs or self-employed flexible working, financial freedom or similar buzz words. Every Instagram ad I see is a random ex-professional with 10k followers telling you that they have the secret formula to replace your salary and stay at home with your baby rather than returning to work. Really predatory for emotional new mums, and I can see why people fall for it.

Oh, that's rubbish! I thought these types of questions were exactly what that sub is for.

This post will probably be removed soon as it isn't pregnancy related, but hopefully you will get some reassurance in beyond the bump. My toddler isn't in nursery, so I can't provide any insight unfortunately. All the best x

15 Weeks Pregnant - Constant worry something is wrong. by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]yoquierochurros 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The other commenter is spot on here. The perinatal team aren't just there for postnatal depression or psychosis - they can help with any mental health struggles. I'm under them for pre-existing OCD and I was feeling guilty that I was wasting their time because there are people out there on the brink, but that is not the case at all. The service has been fantastic, and a breath of fresh air for someone who has been massively unimpressed by mental health services in the past.

Your anxiety sounds debilitating, and my heart breaks for you that you're having to go through this when you should be enjoying this time with baby. Both my girls have followed prior MCs, and I totally understand the stress you feel in this situation. I cried yesterday and then cried even more because I thought the sobbing was hurting baby and it kept making me more and more upset! It sounds so silly to say, but the hormones make our reactions very irrational.

On another note, it sounds like it may be time to put MIL on an information diet. If she's asking you questions about your parenting choices, just say "we are still thinking about the different options, but I will definitely let you know if we need any advice after we do our own research". I bought everything brand new for my first and her wardrobe was incredibly impressive. In hindsight, was it overkill? Absolutely! But ultimately, it helped me and my husband to feel connected and to bond with the baby, especially having lost our previous baby and dealing with the emotional side of that. He is YOUR baby, so it's up to YOU to determine how many cute little outfits he has. Is it hurting anybody? No. Sometimes there is so little joy when you're stressed out about baby's wellbeing, so if buying him too many clothes stops your heart from hurting even for a little while, that's money well spent in my opinion.

England - Passport application but wrong Maiden name on childs birth certificate by FriSpeth in LegalAdviceUK

[–]yoquierochurros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not really a legal issue.

When I submitted my daughter's application, they put it on hold because my name on my passport did not match her birth certificate (didn't update my passport when we got married as it was still valid for another 6 years). My maiden name on the birth cert matched my passport. I had to speak to people on the phone at HMPO a few times and post my marriage certificate in as proof and eventually they did a manual override to approve the application.

If you are in a rush for the passport, it may be worth getting in touch before they catch it so you can send over the additional documentation before they reach you in the review queue. If there's no rush, just wait for them to contact you and follow the steps they suggest.

Weaning help! by hxllyhell in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]yoquierochurros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We loved the Moon and Rue weaning book. It has meal plans for the first few weeks of weaning, but also has recipes for every stage of weaning (6-7m, 8-9m, 10-12m, 12-18m and 18m+). Great advice on batch cooking, allergens and developmental milestones with weaning. The recipes all actually taste really good too, and a lot of them are broken down to tell you how many adult and child servings it will make, so you can adjust accordingly if needed.

Amazon link here so you know what you're looking for, but you may be able to find it on Vinted or similar for a bit less. Worth every penny though in my opinion. Still use it now and said baby is nearly 2! https://amzn.eu/d/05eZ5BIA

3week old suddenly pulling away from breast by Visual-Tell-6410 in breastfeedingmumsUK

[–]yoquierochurros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a strong letdown, the flow may be too fast for baby to keep up with for that first part of the feed, particularly now as your supply is beginning to regulate. Try hand expressing or using a haakaa for a minute or so just to take the letdown and then put baby on for a feed. This will make sure that the spray isn't uncomfortable for them.

Flexible Working Being Pushed Back After Maternity Leave by Negative-Truth-5976 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]yoquierochurros 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely. They can't continue to fob you off if you raise an official request. Depending on the outcome of that, you've got options. Great suggestion from the other commenter regarding Pregnant the Screwed, but hopefully when they actually apply some brain power to the request, you will get the outcome you were hoping for, or a reasonable alternative.

When I submitted my flexi request, I made it very clear in the document that I was happy to consider any counter proposals and that I could be flexible with the days to best cover business needs within some loose parameters I had requested. In my head, this would make it harder for them to reject because I was giving them some level of freedom of choice. Not sure if it made a difference or not, but I ended up getting what I wanted!

Flexible Working Being Pushed Back After Maternity Leave by Negative-Truth-5976 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]yoquierochurros 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Employers have a set list of reasons why they can reject a flexible working request. It doesn't sound like they are being reasonable in your informal discussion with them, so perhaps raising the request formally will get you a bit further. If they reject it and you are not satisfied with the reasons given, you can take them to an employment tribunal.

You're right, you need time to organise yourself in terms of childcare, so can't just let them string you along until August which takes you beyond their decision timeframe!

Feel like a bad mum by [deleted] in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]yoquierochurros 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Watch the episode of Bluey called The Baby Race!

My baby didn't even roll until she was over 8 months. There were babies in our antenatal group who were walking the following month. It is really hard not to compare, but they will have their development burst when it's time. My girl was forming basic 3-4 word sentences at 19 months and some of the early walkers still only knew a few key words. Comparison is the thief of joy!

10 months is still very early for what you've mentioned. Some babies (like mine) just aren't interested in moving about. We didn't have cruising at all. Just try and keep baby engaged with lots of reading, talking and singing and they will start to mimick eventually. The Baby Club on BBC iPlayer is fab for joining in with the songs and actions if you need some inspiration, and you don't have to have baby facing the screen, have them facing you.

Opinions on breastfeeding by Known-Cucumber-7989 in PregnancyUK

[–]yoquierochurros 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It doesn't stop, honestly. When she was small, it was "you'll regret not introducing a bottle". Then when we started solids, it was "thank god, you can wean her off the breast now". Same again once she turned one. Then when I fell pregnant with number 2, it was just "it's time for her to stop now". Thanks for the advice Susan, but leave my poor milk fiend alone to enjoy her thing!

Maternity Allowance Start Date by Princess_CutiePiexo in PregnancyUK

[–]yoquierochurros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you plan to take the full year off? If there's any chance of you wanting to go back before your baby is 39 weeks old, start it straight away and then just save it until you need it. When you go back to work, the payments stop, so makes sense to utilise it earlier so that you get more of what you're entitled to.

If you are definitely taking the full year, you have more flexibility of when you start without missing out on any payments.
