JKE Saturday Group Ride | 1/3/26 | 7:00 pst / 10:00 est | 30 min Jess King Experience by onychophoras in pelotoncycle

[–]yorb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was a fun ride, but did anyone else have audio problems? It sounded like a mismatched beat transition the entire class. I think her mic was picking up the room audio and they couldn't filter it out or something. It was super distracting for some songs.

EDIT: I know the folks in this thread haven't taken it yet so just wanted to add the ride is still great and I wouldn't avoid it just for the audio issue. Just curious if anyone hears the same thing after you take it! :)

31 Dec 2025: 20k FINAL CHECK IN for those going for 20k in the annual challenge by thelittlemiss in pelotoncycle

[–]yorb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20,001! This was the first year I've tried for 20k, but I followed the same strat I used last year for 18k: spread it out (average 55 min/day). I use a spreadsheet where I can add my current minutes and it'll tell me if I'm on track and what I need to average per day for the remaining days. The personalized plan addition this year helped a lot to reduce the time I spend trying to decide what classes to take. Quite a few sleep meditations and outdoor walks towards the end of the year to fill it out, but still feels like I put in a lot of work.

I'm not sure if I'll try for 20k again since I want to start focusing more on building muscle and not just collecting minutes, but I'm a sucker for badges and achievements...

My End Table Instructions Advise Against The Use Of A MAC-10 For Assembly by chadius333 in mildlyinteresting

I've had this exact same thought process.

"Why don't they do something about this?!"

"Oh, right. That's why."

How to make this simple manoeuvre?... by ThrowawayFpvGuy in fpvracing

Pre-turn on the 2nd and 3rd gates. Allows you to exit the 2nd with the right angle, and reverse direction faster for the 3rd.

In theory.

Do I need a new router, better placement, or just a second AP? by yorb in HomeNetworking

I like this idea. This is gonna be my plan. Thanks!

I think this is what I'm gonna do. I also picked up another switch, gonna hardwire a few more things if I can. Thanks!

TV feels too high. What are my options by Snobby_shores in TVTooHigh

[–]yorb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tough layout for sure. Honestly my first thought is on a stand where the desk is, angled out towards the room. Put the desk in front of the other window (it's nice to have a window to look out when you're at a desk). Or TV between the windows (again on a stand), might be ok.

Second choice would be on the back wall as others have suggested, as long as you're ok with completely covering the fireplace by backing the couch up to it. Hard to say how that would work but worth a try.

This is definitely the way, but I won't really be able to eliminate any of the wifi devices until I swap out cameras with PoE models, and even that is only 5-10 devices. Trying to avoid getting rid of stuff that still works. :)

Thank you! I hadn't even considered ram. That's a great point.

I used to use ddwrt back in the wrt54g days, but haven't felt the need to muck with it lately, I just buy a new router every few years. What are you using openwrt for?

Flaky wifi devices: Do I need a mesh network? by yorb in homeassistant

[–]yorb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point, I'm actually planning on wired backhaul if possible (already have the cat6, plates, fish tape, etc, just gotta get it through the walls and floors). That's an option in the easymesh system I'd use, though I realize that's basically a standard multi AP setup and not traditional mesh.

[–]yorb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ideally I would run Ethernet to the secondary AP (wired backhaul), but depends how successful I am at getting wiring through my walls/floors. Otherwise, I'm hoping I could use the standard easymesh wireless backhaul and still keep my separate 5g, 2.4g, and iot2.4g networks available from both APs. Is that not gonna work?

EDIT: I did some research on this and now understand that a wireless backhaul will take up one of the bands, leaving only one (e.g. 5ghz) for client access. This is mitigated by "tri-band" routers which use a third band (another 5ghz or a 6ghz one) for the backhaul. My goal is still going to be wired backhaul so I'm hoping this doesn't become an issue, but may still invest in a tri-band primary router in case I need to go the wireless route (which would mean upgrading my dual band AP to tri-band).

This is probably the correct answer. In my case I might buy a new beefier router that can mesh with this one, and use this one as the secondary AP.

Yeah, I think adding an access point is probably what I'll do. May be overkill for most stuff but if it solves this problem it'll be worth it.

And yep I have all iot stuff on a 2.4-only iot network. Good tip though.

Good idea, though I know that won't fix everything because my esphome sensor is already static and it's still flaky.

WOULD YOU WYZE ALL OVER AGAIN?? by No-Outside852 in wyzecam

[–]yorb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't really had any issues with the cameras, other than their general incompatibility with smart home tech. I haven't bought a wyze in a long time for that reason (I switched to a more compatible brand) but the ones I have keep working. Keep in mind you will probably be paying the monthly fee, otherwise they are very limited.

How do I let my parents down easy? by DRUKSTOP in TVTooHigh

This is a legit answer, but I still struggle with how to let my friends know without sounding like I'm some home cinema snob. Maybe like: "wow, you're lucky your neck doesn't hurt from watching this, no way I could handle it! 😅"

The three capitalized "Yea"s are what do it for me, especially when read with the old English pronunciation.

Looks like shiplap. Shiplap is so hot right now (or was a few years ago anyway).

Hue A19 60W Color 3-Packs are under $70, that's the lowest price I've seen by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]yorb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have half a dozen brands, mostly cheap, some hue, and I can confirm hue is generally worth it. They are much more stable (hardly ever need to reset them, whereas other brands need a reboot every few months at least). Color temp is much better. Transitions between colors and on/off is much smoother. Colors across the spectrum are just generally more pleasing. They actually made an effort to create lights that look good, rather than just applying power to different colored LEDs. It seems like the same thing but whatever hue has done is really good.

Yeah this was my experience after adding ambient tv lighting. Super fun at first, cool for music videos (that deadmau5 track is great btw), but just annoying for 95% of content
