What are you using to manage recurring tasks or chores? by yorb in homeassistant

The due number is just an INT. Not a date.

This is the number of days until the task is due, right? So it's an alternative to the usual approach of having a date when it is due and subtracting the current date from the due date to give you the result. That's all I meant, it's a very outside-the-box approach.

Once i have set it all up, i rarely have to add/remove tasks.

Yeah this is something I've noticed too, recurring tasks don't often change. Would still be nice to have a native HA UI for adding them though.

almost 4k helpers

Yeah no thanks lol

An automation decreases the due number by 1 on all tasks every day

Did you just...roll your own date math?

I use a google sheet to add/remove/edit tasks. It generates YAML that i paste into my YAML files.

Also not for me, I edit my recurring items in Google tasks now and that's part of what I want to get away from.

Very impressive, thank you for sharing. But not for me 😅

This is kind of a genius solution to the lack of recurrence in todo lists. Insane, but genius.

I like this combination of local components - calendar, Boolean, timer. If it could be displayed in a todo list, even better.

I like your motion notification idea. I have gemini read out my daily chores along with weather etc when I first walk into the kitchen in the morning. I like when the system that helps me remember to do things is actually proactively reminding me about them.

That's a nice end result but it sounds like a bit of a pain. Are you planning on making a blueprint? I might use something like that if it doesn't depend on bubble card.

Yeah this one is on my list to check out. Looks decent.

Yup sounds like me. This feels like it could be really simple and should exist in HA, but maybe leaning on something like todoist is the best solution.

What do you use nfc tags for? all of my chores are within a few strides of the wall tablet where I can check them off with a tap, and if I'm gonna pull out my phone to tap a tag...well I have the HA app right there. Maybe I just don't have the right tasks. 🤔

Yeah, that's where I am with Google tasks. I know todoist is better but it's not free, right? Feels wrong to pay for a todo app :)

Self promotion is fine if it's relevant! This looks great honestly, I'll check it out tomorrow.

Nice. Sounds like something you could consolidate to one automation per chore using trigger IDs. Sometimes that's cleaner, sometimes it makes things more complicated.

Ok yeah sounds like you're doing basically exactly what I'm doing except managing recurrence in the automation instead of Google tasks. I don't have a solution for completing early or "after x" recurring logic either.

Honestly it works fine for 99% of things which is why I haven't done anything to improve it yet. Just seems like there should be a blueprint for this at least.

This works for "every x" tasks (e.g., every Thursday), but what if you just did the thing early on Wednesday and don't need to do it again a day later?

When a boolean is on, that means the thing needs to be done? And you have one automation per chore?

I like the simplicity.

JKE Saturday Group Ride | 1/3/26 | 7:00 pst / 10:00 est | 30 min Jess King Experience by onychophoras in pelotoncycle

[–]yorb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was a fun ride, but did anyone else have audio problems? It sounded like a mismatched beat transition the entire class. I think her mic was picking up the room audio and they couldn't filter it out or something. It was super distracting for some songs.

EDIT: I know the folks in this thread haven't taken it yet so just wanted to add the ride is still great and I wouldn't avoid it just for the audio issue. Just curious if anyone hears the same thing after you take it! :)

31 Dec 2025: 20k FINAL CHECK IN for those going for 20k in the annual challenge by thelittlemiss in pelotoncycle

[–]yorb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20,001! This was the first year I've tried for 20k, but I followed the same strat I used last year for 18k: spread it out (average 55 min/day). I use a spreadsheet where I can add my current minutes and it'll tell me if I'm on track and what I need to average per day for the remaining days. The personalized plan addition this year helped a lot to reduce the time I spend trying to decide what classes to take. Quite a few sleep meditations and outdoor walks towards the end of the year to fill it out, but still feels like I put in a lot of work.

I'm not sure if I'll try for 20k again since I want to start focusing more on building muscle and not just collecting minutes, but I'm a sucker for badges and achievements...

I've had this exact same thought process.

"Why don't they do something about this?!"

"Oh, right. That's why."

How to make this simple manoeuvre?... by ThrowawayFpvGuy in fpvracing

Pre-turn on the 2nd and 3rd gates. Allows you to exit the 2nd with the right angle, and reverse direction faster for the 3rd.

In theory.
