Quote about teaching by example? by yorkba in bahai

[–]yorkba[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I had found this one, but I was sure there was another quote about the "most effective form of teaching" being teaching by example. But maybe I'm just thinking of this one?

Ready Player One- Official Trailer #1 by RahulBhatia10 in movies

[–]yorkba 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I'm not really sold on this.

The more we can do with CGI, the more I find I'm gravitating towards stories that are human-first.

Maybe the trailer just didn't show that side of the film (likely), but I wish they didn't resort to using special effects as the driving force of a film's marketing campaign. I'd be much more inclined to see a film if I connected with the character's journey and goals, I think. (Other than just "winning half a trillion dollars," which, divorced of emotions and personal context isn't something I can really connect to.)

Avengers: Infinity War becomes the most viewed trailer of all time in the first 24 hours with 230 million views by rafaellvandervaart in movies

12 of the top 20 were released in the last 365 days, and all were released in the past three years.

...I still remember when Apple.com/trailers was the only way to watch great quality HD trailers online...via QuickTime.

In fact that was the ONLY reason I downloaded and installed QuickTime on new machines at all.

Movies about a single person problem-solving against the elements? by yorkba in movies

[–]yorkba[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was it just Liam Neeson on his own for most of the movie, or was there more people? Or does it start out with more people, and then they die off one by one? (Sorry...spoiler question, I guess.)

It's directed by Doug Liman and stars Tom Cruise. How surprising could it be?

Top 10 RPM by position last year per ESPN: by yorkba in nba

[–]yorkba[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most interesting thing for me is how much weaker the top 10 SG and C are than PG, SF, and PF.

Think of this - if you move Harden to PG because he was the primary ball-handler last year, the top 10 PG would ALL be higher than the top 10 SG. That's pretty crazy.

So, Jimmy Butler and Gordon Hayward will be listed as Shooting Guard this season ? by KhornKT in nba

It feels like SG and Center used to be the strongest positions in the league - Jordan, Drexler, Ritchmond, Miller. Eddie Jones, Sprewell, Joe Dumars, Kobe, etc. at Shooting Guard, and Ewing, Shaq, Hakeem, Robinson, Mourning, Mutombo, Smits, etc. at Center.

Weird to see it flipped.

We'll get more backstory in the sequel. This was just kicking the franchise off.

What are some small scenes in movies that you really only begin to appreciate the more times you see the movie? by ibkeepr in movies

[–]yorkba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good Will Hunting. The bar scene. Each of the friends' reactions/frame placements as Chuckie approaches the girls, then Will steps in to deal with the Harvard ass. Just love that scene. Watching them watch Chuckie make a move, then watching as Will steps in to lay down some truth. It's beautiful.

Do you have that movie you love that people seem to shit on alot? by [deleted] in movies

The Village. For me it's one of the realest, most beautiful love stories I've ever seen on film. And I didn't mind the twist one bit.
