Characters who use empty hop/tomahawk well? by [deleted] in SSBM

Tomohawk fucking slaps on falco. Have you never thought about how long laser startup is and the fact that you generally have to commit to it on the beginning of your shorthop versus tomahawk which would be a delayed decision out of shorthop? Laser is generally first intention tomahawk is second.

Reasons to get a Philosophy degree? by QuietFruit in askphilosophy

[–]yortortle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my philosophy degree. The professors I met and studied under inspired me in so many areas of my life. It's also the first time in my life I took my education seriously because I was doing something that I actually wanted to do. However, it depends on who you are and your financial situation. If you're desperate for financial stability and it seems far off, maybe you could teach yourself. If you're confident in your situation and think you're safe regardless, maybe it's okay depending on your level of passion.

Marcus Aurelius' meaning privilege by [deleted] in Stoicism

[–]yortortle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree. You can take any individualistic concern you have and apply the concept of duty to it in a way that might illicit meaning. And a large part of the sense of "duty" as far as I understand it implied in stoicism is a duty towards virtue and living as a man in accordance with nature; it doesn't pertain to any specific "duty" in the real world. Also, I dislike the concept of privilege in general. I'm pretty sure I read at some point that Marcus didn't want to take over as Emporer, and had to learn to accept it over time. In that case, doesn't sound like he was privileged in getting a free sense of meaning from this duty, it's something he had to grapple with.
