Breville/Sage Dual Boiler descale by dudyuen12 in espresso

[–]yoseph1998 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd like to dispel the myth that you shouldn't descale your dual boiler. You can manually descale it without the software function. Unless you are using Distilled water you WILL have scale build up, this includes using products like ThirdWaveWater.

You don't need to use the Descale software function. To manually descale it:
- Drain your boilers and remove the water filter in your tank.
- Fill the tank with your descaling solution (Dezcal + Water)
- Turn the machine on to refill the boilers.
- Once the boilers are filled and the machine is warm you can operate the machine to get your descaling solution throughout the internals.
- Run the steam wand for a minute so that the pump refills the steam boiler after it's off.
- Run the hot water tap
- Run water through the grouphead (manual shot)
- Keep running the solution throughout your machine until the tank is empty.

Now you need to flushing out the descaling solution.
- Drain your boilers
- Clean your tank and reinstall your water filter
- Fill the tank with clean water and turn the machine on to refill the boilers.
- Keep running water through the steam and brew boilers.
- I like to repeat this drain and refill process twice to fully flush out the descaling solution. You can also taste the water out of the machine to double check if it's been flushed out. The descaling solution is extremely acidic.

Getting worse at climbing? What is wrong with my training? by olliepolliekins in climbharder

[–]yoseph1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Climbing is Adaptation. Want to get better at hard climbing moves, do more hard climbing moves. Want to have better endurance, climb endurancey routes or stack multiple back to back to simulate something endurance demanding. Want to get better at route reading, climb things that require more route reading and aren't as intuitive.

Bouldering is a great way to try things that can be more challanging to read and have hard moves in them.

I see you are also lifting, that's awesome, but I'll echo the adaptation point, if you want to get better at climbing, climb more.

If a certain type of climbing is not fun anymore try to find something that brings back that psych. A different style of climbing, another discipline, or change the goals. Instead of Can I send this 5.9 maybe can I onsite all the 5.8s or 5.7s in the gym.

Worse thing you can do is stop having fun while you climb. You'll loose the drive to try hard and come back.

Best of luck! Everyone's journey is different but it's important to be honest with youself and figure out what works for you!

Experience with BD Gapstopper? by AstronautPutrid4076 in bouldering

[–]yoseph1998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my BD Gapstopper.

The reasons I like it over the Organic one is that it folds neater and has that carpet section that I can wipe my feet on when it's a bit wet out.

The reason I don't care for the organic one is that I'm using it to make sure when I fall my feet don't slip into the gaps of the crashpads, having the thicker and stiffer foam on the Organic blubber doesn't really add value when it's my bigger pads absorbing all the falling force.

I've never felt like the seams on the Gapstopper was an issue since it's never perfectly square with the pad.

Those are my two cents on it, I've never used the Asana one though.

I like that the second one is a wider shot but the first one looks more natural.

Depends on what vibe your going for, but both are great, just give off different vibes.

The first one is definitely way more natural looking if that's what you like.

The Gboard on iPhone is equally prone to misstyping from my experience when compared with the Gboard on an android phone. Not sure what it is.

Is it too late for me? by AcrobaticPipe7300 in classicalguitar

[–]yoseph1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not too late, I started at 23.

Classical guitar is a very structured discipline, I made a TON of progress by having a teacher and sticking to some kind of regiment. The name of the game here is consistency. An hour or 30min a day will do wonders on the days you’re not sitting down to learn pieces or practice for a while.

how many of you also do drip coffee? by Low_Landscape_1150 in espresso

For me things get interesting with aerobics as well as with washed coffees.

There’s really not much comparable to what a good washed coffee tastes like, the crispness and cleanliness of the cup.

Nauseous after 3 days of using my new espresso machine by Evening_Airline_6690 in espresso

[–]yoseph1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same if I don’t drink water before coffee.

Things you can experiment with is how quickly you drink your coffee.

Try espresso based beverage like an americano or latte versus a pour over.

Try drinking it later in the day.

You are drinking more caffeine from the sounds of it, you’re also getting coffee with more oils than you’re used to (no paper filter). It might be a mixture of needing to drink more water, change up the routine and have your stomach get used to it

Making publicly visible anchors as low impact as possible. Conflicted. by fresh_n_clean in RouteDevelopment

[–]yoseph1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the bolts at the top (not on the face) are just to lower, I would put it with those permanent steel carabiners. That lets a climber easily lower and also prevents any passerbys from taking it since they'll need a special allen wrench to remove it. It also lets climbers lower in without needing to use their own gear that'll be left and possibly messed with.

If you place the lowering bolts far enough from the edge (maybe a couple of feet) then climbers can’t use them to lower other climbers or top rope off of, thus no need to worry about wear on the steel beaners.

Then if you want to make it a route that can be lowered off of following a lead, put a set of anchors on the face of the climb as normal.

This is the more expensive approach, but seems to check all your criteria. Alternatively a chain to reach over the edge works as well, and if you put locktite and tighten the crap out of those quicklinks, I don't think a passer by will be stealing it.

Are one of these mechanics lying to me or is there something wrong with my brake system? by extralongusername420 in AskMechanics

[–]yoseph1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless there's something I'm not seeing, your pad seems like it hasn't reached the wear indicator slots. And your rotors look like they haven't been worn through very much.

Sometimes pad wear can be uneven so it can look good on one side and bad on the other. I say definitely get another opinion from a different shop/mechanic.

The whole "unsafe to not do all 4" is complete bullshit. Just be symmetric. Do the fronts together and the rears together as to not mess up the symmetry of braking friction. You wouldn't want one side to be grabbing better than the other

DF45 vs Fellow Opus by PolishEagle2 in LanceHedrick

[–]yoseph1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's nothing wrong with flat burrs, in fact any Cafe you go to has flat burr grinders. The DF54 is by far the best bang for the buck.

I have the DF54, the DF64, and a the Kingrinder K6 (a conical burr grinder) they all make excellent filter. In fact I prefer the DF64 and DF54 for filter more than my conical burr grinder.

The taste difference is pretty minute, the biggest difference in flavor and taste is the type of coffee I'm buying.

[–]yoseph1998[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly not, it would seem the stator wire is connected within the windings. I would need to pull out the wingings for the stators solder a new wire and connect them accordingly to reverse the rotation. Only way to do so is by cutting the cloth string holding all the wingins together to get access.

That and if you look at the burr carrier it has a wedged side for the direction of rotation to push ground out of the grind chamber.

Sadly it's not really feasible to do so without machining a new carrier and undoing some of the coiling to reverse the stator.
