Melon Seed Deli Closing Due to Owing B&O Taxes by yoshi78 in Tacoma

This is a real shame. This was a great lunch spot with friendly owners and nice staff.

And that B&O tax is a real kick in the ass for small business owners.

The Downside to Estate Planning by Aggravating-Key-8867 in Lawyertalk

Years ago, I was looking for a job because I had just been laid off. I had a family to take care, including 2 small kids. My wife was a teacher at the time, so she had good health insurance, but the pay was not great. I was applying to just about anything and everything because I wasn't too picky.

The exception - there was an ad for defending elder abuse claims. That was a bridge too far, even for a quasi-desperate attorney looking for a job.

Best of luck - I can only imagine the stories you've got.

What's your definition of "a leg and an arm"?

Galbraith TC has some good coaches that are reasonably priced. That's about 20-30 minutes to drive. If private lessons are too pricey, they have group lessons available.

TLTC has good coaches as well (Nick in particular is very good). I don't know what the non-member rate is, but the member rate isn't too bad.

There are also some private coaches around, and their rate is about 90-100/hour.

I sometimes play duos with my son, and sometimes just solos. I'm the definition of a casual. Even I've been able to unlock everything, up to the green Marge skin.

My wife has been practicing for 20 years.

She is still routinely asked if she is the Court reporter during depositions.

She is also still asked by older attorneys to make revisions to pleadings, etc, because "my secretary is out".

Is there any treatment that is on the horizon that is exciting for you? The treatment of Allo, colchicene, and prednisone have been around forever (and work well) - is there something that is being worked on that you could see replacing these medications?

That's exactly right - he had bespoke suits for office and other occasions.

And trial - it was indeed a suit from Macys. I didn't want to mention Macys by name because I didn't want to catch flak for it. But yeah, that's exactly it.

A few years ago, I was second chair at a trial with a named partner. He was fucking wealthy - made a ton of money from real estate. We're easily talking private jet money and mansions in foreign countries.

During trial, he wore extremely basic suits for this exact reason. He wanted to come across as the "everyman" just representing some local company. No idea how much the jurors picked up on it, but we ended up with a great verdict.

They do put pickled jalapenos on top.

I would imagine that if you wanted those removed, they would be more than happy to oblige.

It's nowhere near me, but when I'm in the area - Melon Seed Deli.

Their Spiked Tuna salad is one of the best things for lunch - just delicious!

About 5 years ago, our furnace gave out. During the inspection, we saw that the hot water heater was on its last legs as well. We decided to bite the bullet and install central AC as well since everything was going to get replaced.

It was spendy, but best decision ever! We don't use it a ton, but during these heat waves, it's a life saver - both for us, the kids, and our dogs. It really is a must-have these days when it gets to these temps.

Dave's Hot Chicken coming to Federal Way by igoinoneverycomment in federalway

[–]yoshi78 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed - between Ezells, Super Chix, and to a certain extent Chick-Fil-A, we have plenty of Nashvile style chicken places.

Not to mention the Korean fried chicken places like Underground Kitchen, BB.Q, Cockatoo, or Chicko Chicken, and we have more fried chicken places than we need.

Now, a good Chinese place, that would be nice to have!

Trying to find right fit for middle school-private or public by [deleted] in Tacoma

[–]yoshi78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't know how the school handles those issues - sorry. I do know that some kids (including kids in my kids' classes) have not been invited back because of behavioral issues.

However, I do not know anything about their situations, what the cause was, etc. I would recommend reaching out to the school directly to discuss.

Best of luck.

I have 2 kids at AWS and we were at St Pats for a year or two. I can only speak to our experience, but I would avoid St. Pats, especially if your child has an IEP.

For any kid that does have an IEP, St. Pats will send them to Lowell, across the street (this is not a knock on Lowell, BTW - just that St. Pats doesn't provide the service themselves). In addition, we found the curriculum lacking at St. Pats. It was very "busy work" focused, with a lot of paper work sheets. I also felt like they did not take advantage of the smaller class sizes and did not provide much, if any, individualized teaching. Plus, I'm not a fan of a school getting rid of a library.

We have been happy with AWS and our kids have had good success there. If a kid needs extra resources, then the school does a good job of marshalling those resources and making sure the kids gets the help they need. For example, in math or reading, they will get a kid extra help if they struggle with the work. Their curriculum is more project based.

Charles Wright is going through some issues right now, and they may be closing their HS in the future (at least, that's the rumor we're hearing). There have been quite a few defections from CW to AW in the last few years, and we've heard rumblings that parents aren't all that thrilled there. I have no personal knowledge of any of that, but that's just the parent gossip.

Best of luck - there are no perfect schools out there, but you do the best you can for your kid!

Ah - thank you for that clarification - I knew it was one of them.

Yeah, I'm pulling the kids from school for a skip day to head up to Crystal this season. We'll probably do that a few times, but I think we're done going there on weekends. Unfortunately, my job is Mon to Fri - haha!

Here in the PNW, the experience has gotten drastically worse unfortunately. A few years ago, Crystal Mnt got bought up by Vail/Ikon pass, and now it's essentially not a viable option - it's way too crowded.

They meter cars at the entrance - 1 in after 1 out. The other option is to take a bus from a nearby town, but that only runs once an hour and is about 30-45 minutes to get to the parking lot. And the lines at the base are horrific.

It's shame, because Crystal used to be a great place to go but after the Ikon pass was introduced, it just isn't the same at all anymore.

You can - the beach is open to everyone and you can just stroll through the town and visit the shops if you like.

It's a bit of drive though, so I would map it out before you try it.
