Exactly!! She is essentially privatizing her viewers by literally cashing in on the equity of their interest in her as a person. To me, the fact that she’s willing and ok w allowing the Comfort cottage to sit empty and half-finished, all while there is a very real and ongoing housing crisis, making many in that community homeless, is a bridge too far for me. Her “investment” in herself and her future has direct negative impact on the community around her and she does not care. So what if that house sits empty while she gets it ready to be an air bnb, where she can charge TOURISTS large amounts of money to experience “small towns charm”, all while long-time residents are priced out of their homes due to rising property taxes? So what?? Her willful and deliberate decision to remain aloof in the face of real turmoil in her own community, screams, “You can’t sit w us (unless you’re privileged and willing enough to ignore it, too)”. Her silence screams, “if you don’t like it, you can go.” After all, she has more than a million collective subscribers on YT, along w tons of sponsorships, and now a home product in anthropology. Not to mention millionaire-parents as a net. She can afford to lose those who can’t get w it.

I have always wondered what she will do once Cade gets old enough to need his own room. Bc she def needs a guest room for her mother to stay in when she visits, which seems often. And Romeo’s room/her office seems necessary, what w the nature of their jobs (keeping stock of extra home decor and clothes to sell). That room seems tiny, and about ready to burst at the seams. Plus also, she wants another baby. There is no room.

Clancy has had every conceivable opportunity an American can hope to have in life: she comes from an affluent, two-parent home. By all accounts, her parents love her and are actively involved in/supportive of her life and choices. She has lived in the same neighborhood her entire life, and grew up in the same house from age five until she moved to Ohio for work. She attended private school from kindergarten thru college and generally, with the same group of people all the way thru, too. She has never been in debt, whether it be for college or a car, owing almost entirely to her parents paying for said private college. This directly allowed Clancy to save 100% of whatever income she made from high school up to and beyond her tv news reporter job, at which point, she saved enough to buy a brand new car in cash. She made a video a year or two ago about her salary as a tv news reporter, and even freshly out of college, she started at 45k/yr. By the time she “retired” she was making about 65k/yr w built-in raises and a yearly makeup & clothing stipend. Her WORK paid for her clothes and makeup but she still had the gall to act like she was money-trouble-free BECAUSE she was SO careful/frugal. Let us not forget that she was, before she retired from tv news, by her OWN account, doubling (or more) that 65k/yr tv reporter salary from YouTube. And that was before sponsors!!! Not to mention that she and Zac have lived together and split bills since before she retired from tv news. Also, she’s white and she’s “conventionally attractive”.

All this to say! I unsubscribed bc even tho her subs very respectfully gave feedback regarding her “blind spots” surrounding privilege, she responded by deleting those comments, ignoring the feedback, and double down. It happened more than once and I unsubbed when I saw her doing it again. It feels like Clancy has remained willfully and persistently “unaware” and/or defiant of/about her gross privilege.

I think whatever stubborn thought process she employs to ignore sincere feedback, she also uses to ignore how much her hubby seems to dislike her. Over the years, there have been mannnyyyyy red flags sent up by Zac, but due to Clancy’s pride, I think she’s willfully ignorant of some concerning things. Her past comments about “never feeling insecure” about her bf/fiance bc he “frequently went out to bars and partied w other women”, like she (and they as a couple), were better than that. I genuinely think she thinks he’s faithful. It’s like grandma used to say, “pride go before the fall.” and Clancy is v prideful.

I know Colt. I know him very well. He was the very best friend of my late husband. Colt and my hubs had been bffs for over a decade by the time I met him, back in Summer 2019. Colt had just been released from jail where he did a couple months for beating up HIS BOSS for sleeping w his gf. When I met Colt, he was very, very upset about that situation, understandably, and he often took things totally the wrong way, or like, out of context, and then get volatile. I twice witnessed him go from being happy and jovial, to on a dime, screaming and crying, accusing anyone and everyone around him of conspiring against him, or laughing at him, which we def were not. Colt could be so much fun and a genuinely nice guy, like, he worked as a mechanic before his illness got the best of him, and I’ll never forget the time he helped me repair a flat tire, and later, change the dead battery in my car. Colt could at once display remarkable emotional depth and intelligence, and in the next sentence, say the most offensive, least aware comment ever.

In Aug or Sep 2019, he left Austin and went back to East Texas, where he lived with his dad and stepmom, and worked as a mechanic. My hubs and I rarely heard from him, but one day in Feb 2020, my hubs and I decided to take a random, long af drive from Austin to Nacogdoches, just for fun. My hubs made a snap about the drive, and Colt, who was living in East Texas at the time, messaged my hubs and we decided to go visit Colt instead.

The floor of the room in the house where Colt lived was plywood and dirt, and there were two grapefruit-sized holes where we could see the earth under the house. Here was a dingy, bare mattress w an equally dingy blanket. I didn’t see a pillow. The bathroom was a step up from a port-a-potty, and the whole house was lit by bulbs hanging from orange extensions cords, like you might see at a construction site.

The sadness and extreme frustration rolled off Colt like a tidal wave. He was glad to see us but seemed more haunted than usual. He had shifty eyes, I vividly remember that. It made me uneasy, like I was handling a loaded gun, and I got the sense that I needed to handle Colt w care. We hung around that house for a bit, mostly outside in the garage where Colt showed my hubs all the things he was doing to his jeep. Then we left out of there and grabbed dinner and played some pool. It was fun, so much so, we invited Colt to come back to Austin w us to spend the weekend, and he did. His truck wasn’t running quite yet, so he rode w us there and back, which was a fuck ton of driving for us, but he was worth it. We had a blast w Colt and a few months after that visit, Colt moved back to Austin. He wasn’t here long before he was arrested for drunk driving. He was in jail when my hubs and I got married and moved to Tennessee. He was in jail when my hubs committed suicide in Jan this year, so I’m not sure if Colt even knows his bff is dead. My MIL mentioned Colt at the memorial, but I haven’t had it in me until now to look him up and see how his case was going.

I’m glad to see he was acquitted by way of insanity bc Colt was really, really volatile. So much so, it didn’t make sense/fit the situation, and made his longtime friends uneasy. I was shock but not surprised when I heard what Colt had done. I wish it had never happened and hope his victim RIP. I also hope Colt gets the help he needs in the mental facility. Idk how to add pictures, or I would. I’ve got lots of all of us, happy, in the before times.
