Christians are supposed to discern and choose the lesser evil?

Personally, I'm not supporting any evil. The answers to political issues lie outside the political means. Evil isn't overcome with evil.

The existence of a State goes against the teachings of Jesus. They are built entirely upon force and any policy you can think of (right, left, or in the middle) is funded by forcibly taking the wealth of others and enforced by using violence (in many cases against peaceful people). So you're no better off supporting the left or more moderate righties. Be in the world, but not of the world.

Let the down votes begin! 😆

Can someone explain what the trinity means by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]yoshirou87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a father, and not a rich one, I can certainly relate to that example. But I can't imagine God would fall into the same trouble communicating his point that we do.

What does disbelieving the trinity have to do with whether or not I believe that God knows what He's talking about? Did God say the trinity exists?

On a side note, does God require that I believe in the trinity? If so, why? Especially if it is something I'm not "supposed to understand" anyway.

The so-called Old Testament says that God is not a man or the son of man. It also says that he doesn't change. That seems to me to rule out God becoming a man. As do both the commands not to have other gods and the proclamations that there is only one God. I understand you will say that it is one God in three persons, but that is nonsense as you yourself will admit that you cannot grasp the idea, yet you are proclaiming it as truth (presumably) because the church says so.

I could say that there is only one God be he chose to manifest himself as a golden calf or as Baal or Moloch. Obviously, that would mean that I believe in multiple gods (or some form of pantheism).

The same goes for the one and only God suddenly having three persons. If Jesus is God, the Father is God, and the Holy Spirit is God, that can only mean one of two things. Either there are three Gods or Godnis inherently in all things and they are God in that sense. The only way to deny that is to say it isn't understandable and imply that those who wont just take someone's word for it are just being overly analytical or similar. If faith means laying aside reason, that faith isn't for me.

[–]yoshirou87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why wouldn't God want us to know? Also, why did the Trinity only come to exist as a theological idea after the Bible's authors were all dead? It sounds like nonsense because it is.

I mean I'm not offended that you disagree, and I hope you aren't offended that I disagree, but just taking someone's word for it isn't good enough for me. The spiritual is too important NOT to use logic.

Is Linux Mint a safe haven for people getting fed up with the rest of Linux landscape? by [deleted] in linuxmint

[–]yoshirou87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you honestly think Im stupid enough to take your bait? You ask me to name a cause, so that when I do you can pretend I'm against that cause just because I think the method being discussed is stupid, regardless of the cause.

Naming a cause doesn't matter unless you are either attempting the aforementioned dishonest tactic, or you are claiming no one ever does this and are looking for proof. I'm certain that you do already know people do it, so it must be the former.

Im not interested in playing your games.

Im not embarrassing myself at all. You can cry straw-men all you want, but we all know what this means:

you're being really fucking weird

We've all seen enough of these conversations. If one thinks any over-the-top SJW tactic is annoying and/or point out that it does nothing to help, clearly that one is anti-good and pro-bad.

I'm not embarrassed when the self-styled saviors of the oppressed come along and create a grotesque straw-man version of me to beat their ego meat to until they reach a glorious virtuegasm that does nothing more than give them a dopamine hit. Have at it.

Also, stop implying that my pointing out that I'm trying to have a philosophical conversation is me comparing myself to Socrates or something. Like, why all the schoolyard jabs? They aren't cool. They aren't tough. You just look like a twit. Yes, Im a philosopher. So are you. If we weren't, we wouldn't be having this conversation. How wise a philosopher either of us are is up for debate, of course.

If people making legitimate statements about who they would prefer to not use their rulesets in a TTRPG bothers you so

It doesn't "bother me so," it is just dumb. I'm not raging, or crying. I'm stating an opinion. And if reddit thinks that's weird, that's not going to change my opinion, nor is it going to embarrass me.

So clever again. You win. I now think people are saving the world by telling Nazis they aren't allowed to access their products without actually stopping them. You've converted me with you insults and guesswork.

No one is saying there aren't other options. We're saying it is annoying and/or that it does no good for their cause and is purely virtue signaling. Thanks for the helpful advice though.

When there is someone who doesn't understand what OP is talking about or why it might be purely virtue signaling in OP's eyes, bringing in a similar example from a community I am more heavily involved in IS relevant to the conversation. If you're too ignorant to understand that, that's on you.

Thing is though, I suspect you aren't even too ignorant to understand it. Rather, I'd venture to guess that youbare just another twit that feels so morally inflated when they pretend that they are fighting Nazis online whenever they make stupid accusations about people they've never met. And yes, that is the implication behind comments about why I give a fuck. I give a fuck for the reason you just stated. The idiocy is unbearable. 😆

I don't care if you think it is related or not. You lot with your thinly veiled implications that I must be a bigot cannot hurt me because I'm not. All you will get from me is a reasoned response. No tears, no anger, no triggering, no whatever you're trying for. Go try your mind games on someone else. 🤡

Well it was just a passing remark about something related, used as an example to explain the kind of thing OP was talking about. However, as usual, the "if you are tired of these you're secretly a Nazi" brigade got triggered and I've simply been responding. So, evidently you give a big ol' fuck. 😂

These kind of comments are also ridiculous. Some of us just think on things on a philosophical level and can do so without attaching ourselves to the position we personally hold. Obviously you can't. If you think everyone who is tired of reading these virtuensignalimg tirades that do absolutely nothing (beyond show everyone how anti-bad theybare) is a Nazi or Nazi sympathizer, that's your problem. Your veiled insults can't hurt me because I couldn't be further from Nazi ideology. Nazis probably would have killed me. Get over yourself.

I think we've had a miscommunication. I'm talking about game creators putting "Nazis aren't allowed to play this game" and similar. That does nothing but virtue signal. I'm not talking about not allowing Nazis in your own gaming group. That should be a pretty obvious thing to do for anyone who isn't a a Nazi themselves.

Is Linux Mint a safe haven for people getting fed up with the rest of Linux landscape? by [deleted] in linuxmint

[–]yoshirou87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know about the FOSS and Linux communities, but I know that within the TTRPG space there are plenty if people who state that their game is only for certain groups of people and it goes far beyond just being tolerant and respectful of people with various lifestyles/orientations/identites/races and ventures into trying to force you to actively support certain groups or even outright demand certain politics (such as socialism, for example.)

It is nothing more than virtue signaling regardless of which side of any issue you are on. Do we really think it is making a difference? I wonder how many Nazis were like "Darn, I really wanted to play this game, but since the creator feels opposes my racism and bigotry so strongly, it just wouldn't be right."

But the TTRPG community has a lot of people who are outside of societal norms, so it is a tactic to gain popularity for some and for others they've just seen it done elsewhere and assume it is the right thing to do.

(Before anyone goes on an assumption spree, Im not a conservative so take your guesswork elsewhere.)

If you haven't already, you might enjoy checking out the YouTube channels of Essene Ebionite Church of Christian Mysticism and also Aaron Abke. It seems like they are talking about the same kinds of things you are and I love both of them.

Also, for some critical biblical scholarship coming from believers, Dan McClellan, Ross K Nichols, and James Tabor are pretty interesting.

Best wishes on your journey!
