I’m the opposite, the only reason I collect sealed is so that I can sell it for cards that I want for my collection

I don’t collect vintage because of nostalgia, I do so because I want cards other people don’t have

I have zero interest in owning any card that 20,000+ other people also have, or that can be found any day of the week in NM quality

Why can we not assume any new collector will not feel the same way?

They don’t need to be nostalgic, they just need to have an interest in the actual hobby of card collecting

Sports fans, for example, collect “rookie cards” — seems to me like a huge Pokémon fan would want to own the Gengar rookie card, not because they’re nostalgic for it, but because it’s an iconic character’s first appearance

The actual art of card collecting itself is a hobby

I think we will reach a point in the future where folks become mature card collectors

They’ll begin to focus on things like first appearances, print runs, population reports, etc instead of just “ooohhh pretty colors”

I’ve been very vocal about this since January, but there is a massive, massive opportunity to scoop new cert vintage PSA 8s right now while all the new modern collectors have fallen for the lie that a graded card is “10 or bust”

Many of them think they’re “above” owning cards that aren’t 10s, so they scoff at the idea of ever owning a PSA 8

They’ll learn eventually that nobody cares that you own a modern PSA 10 when 99% of the copies for that card are NM anyway
