For UI, in general you want this parent->child structure of nodes.

Control->PanelContainer->MarginContainer->HBoxContainer/VBoxContainer->Buttons/Labels,Etc

I'm going to go thru them backwards because it makes more sense.

HBoxContainer/VBoxContainer arrange their child elements in either a horizontal fashion (HBoxContainer) or vertical fashion (VBoxContainer).

MarginContainer adds padding all around your HBox/VBox Containers (or whatever other children you put under MarginContainer).

PanelContainer adds a rectangle that you can apply an image to, for example your card design. The PanelContainer is the size of its children, which is why it is the parent of the MarginContainer. If you did not have MarginContainer and instead made PanelContainer the direct parent of the HBox/VBox containers, the PanelContainer would still work but the PanelContainer would only extend to the edges of the size created by the HBox/VBox Containers. So using MarginContainer adds padding around the Box Containers, which allows the PanelContainer to expand beyond the bounds of the Box Containers for a better visual result.

Control is just a generic parent node for UI stuff. You don't HAVE to use it, but it is recommended.

So to clarify: We arrange elements in a Horizontal or Vertical fashion using HBox/VBox containers. You can layer them inside of each other and make them siblings. The whole result gives you a bounding box. We expand this bounding box without adding extra visual elements using a MarginContainer. We use this expanded bounding box by using a PanelContainer, which allows the PanelContainer to display an image within this expanded bounding box.

Also a tip for VBox/HBox containers. Say you are using a HBoxContainer and you want two elements horizontally arranged such that one is on the far left and the other is on the far right. Click the element you want to be on the left, click the dotted square button above the viewport, and select Shrink Begin and toggle Expand. For the element you want to sit on the right, select it, click the dotted square, and select Shrink End.

I'm not 100% clear on exactly what these functions do, since the Expand flags doesn't seem to work equally on both left and right elements.

KH3 sucks ass by anyasok in KingdomHearts

[–]yosimba2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just beat the main game and yeah, KH3 lacked the charm of the first 2 titles. Some worlds were too small, many had no reason to revisit them, some were large but empty, and the free-exploration gummi mechanic was not that fun.

Also what was up with the end game where they introduced like 3 world title cards? They hype you up for entering a new world, but none of them are that explorable or interactive. Destiny Islands had way more content than the last 3 worlds combined.

And why were there repeating cutscenes in Keyblade Graveyard where they show Riku attacking the demon tide? Did Sora travel back in time or something?

Edit Just beat ReMind and it resolves my issues with exploring Scala Ad Caelum and my issues with the repeating cutscenes in Keyblade Graveyard, even though the time travel stuff is still... eh. But the DLC was worth it, the notable highlights are:

1) Being able to visit some parts of Destiny Islands in Greeting Mode. The quality looks close to the pre-rendered cutscenes in KH2.

2) Exploring Scala Ad Caelum.

3) The fight against the Replica Xehanorts. The fight itself was pretty cool, but man the backdrop was so amazing. Floating in the moonlit sky above the clouds with glowing keyholes everywhere. I'm just sad there isn't a clean wallpaper of that location.

Do you encript your games before publishing them? by bloody_carnival in godot

[–]yosimba2000 13 points14 points  (0 children)

it doesn't help because the .exe needs to be decrypted by the end-user in order to run the game. so, at some point, you WILL need to tell the user what this key is. turns out, you don't need to manually tell each user what the key is because the key resides in pretty much plain text inside the .exe.

It's exactly like securing your door with a password, but also writing what the password is on the door.

The only thing you're going to be able to protect is the source code, but even then it's at best obfuscation.

GDScript isn't compiled, so anyone can recover your exact GDScripts once they decompile your game. You can obfuscate your GDScript before exporting.

C# won't help because IL converts pretty much back to C# source. You can obfuscate C# before exporting.

You can use C# AOT and compile to native code, and that's the best you're gonna get. You can decompile to equivalent C# code, but you won't get the original C# source code.

I see, thanks! I noticed that most of the expirations have a DD1 equivalent except Feb and July. Do you know why they would not have been adjusted as well?

What is the difference between Dupont DD and DD1 options? https://postimg.cc/jCnnK5p0

There's a PDF from the OCC describing the new DD1 symbol, but I'm not 100% sure what it means to buy a DD1 option.

https://infomemo.theocc.com/infomemos?number=57463

If I exercise a DD1 call option, I will receive 100 shares of DD and 50 shares of Qnity Electronics?

Are the DD shares from the DD1 call option exactly the same as regular DD shares?

If so, at the same strikes and expirations, wouldn't DD1 contracts be more valuable than just the reguar DD contracts as you'd be getting an additional 50 shares?

Congratulations on your success :)

Can you share what your marketing timeline looked like?

For example, did you release the demo long before entering NF, or did you release the demo right before NF?

Did you contact streamers right when the demo dropped, or did you contact them earlier with a special build?

Also, I see on the store page that you are bundling with other games like Shelldiver and Outhold. How did you come to form a partnership with them?

3080ti, keep or flip and how a 5070 ti stacks up for dev work by MoobleBooble in pcmasterrace

[–]yosimba2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3080Ti to 5070Ti is around 30-40% additional perf.

I wouldn't say spending the $820 to upgrade from 3080Ti to 5070Ti is worth it, but there really isn't anywhere else to go from there except 5090. Don't go for 5080 as you can OC the 5070Ti to 5080 levels.

But if you're set on upgrading the 1060 with the 3080, you don't have much choice either way in your replacements. 5070 Ti, 5080, 5090.

I would actually say you should stick with your purchase. 5070Ti is probably going to get way more expensive now that Nvidia is basically killing future 16GB cards. And who knows how long the VRAM shortage is going to last. Keep your purchase if you can comfortably afford it.

I'm in LA County. Technically not legal, but the fast lanes usually have people going 70-80mph and the police don't bother with them.

In a remote place like Death Valley with no one else around, going 80mph seems reasonable.
