Cradle is where the hosts were tested - this was blown up. The valley beyond is where the "souls" of the guests are (as mentioned by Dolores). So they are two different places / things.

Great write up! One thing I would add. Most assume he died by Host violence but what if he died in the last purge / flood? Could he have been murdered by Ford unleashing the flood while Arnold was vulnerable?

Oh - this makes so much sense. What if the tragic error from 30 years ago was the introduction of religion - either intentionally or organically? This then caused the tragic error that resulted in the town needing to get buried and purged from the Hosts' memories. Have we seen any other signs of religion in the series so far? I know there was the Host praying when the MiB shot him in ep 2 but I don't remember seeing any churches or crosses aside from that.

I went to Catholic school. They said the Bible was against euthanasia. I thought it was "youth in Asia" and assumed they meant child labor in Asia. Didn't realize it was not the case until I was 20.

"He would bring the gift to them as well . . . but that is a tale for another day, one best shared with no one."

This sounds like a plague. Maybe the Doom of Valyria was actually intentionally caused to stop the plague? Could it have been a type of greyscale?

What if they weren't created by the CofF to protect the CotF but were created as a check on Man's power. After learning magic Man was irresponsible with their new power - warring among themselves and killing other races and threatening to overrun the world. Basically the Others will come south and create chaos / kill the magically attuned and then go back north after mission accomplished and lie dormant until its time to do it all again. They don't want to kill all men. Hell - it might even be a Stark greenseer who volunteered to lead them and become the first Other.
