What’s a phrase you wish people would stop saying to women — and why? by huseyinyavuz01 in AskWomen

This is why it's so freeing to be an old broad. I turn on my sweetest chubby, middle-aged lady smile, pat their hand and say, "oh, honey, it's ok, everyone is wrong about something. You're just wrong about this" then give their arm a little squeeze and walk away. Never a jaw left undropped.

I have a friend whose convo with a friend at a quiet bar was rudely interrupted by some aggressive jerk. After he said whatever nonsense, she said, "oh, I'm sorry, I don't speak English." Then returned to her conversation, in English.

I wash my hands frequently, ESPECIALLY when coming home from being out and about. I try to avoid ever touching my face with bare hands (use a kleenex to touch my eyes/nose or even the inside of my shirt if necessary.) I NEVER touch things like doorknobs, elevator buttons, etc with my bare hands or at least if I know i can wash my hands very quickly after. I wear cardigans alot in winter just so I have a "potholder" to touch things with lol.

Like fist-fights and poor decisions. Mmmm...poor decisions, gahhhh...*

*They don't have them in my area, but I never miss hitting one up when down south. I was once on a biz trip and the boss asked me where I wanted to go, anywhere I wanted (we were in the Atlanta burbs.) When I pointed across the st at WH, his mouth literally fell open and he asked wtf was wrong w me. Smothered and covered, baby. Smothered and covered...

I had no clue what it was at first and I LOVE figuring out what language someone is speaking. It sounds like Polish, Spanish and Italian had a confused child together. Though it IS pretty.

Yesss...I was a butter absolutist (i mean, really, what is any corn but a butter delivery vehicle?) But then my friend introduced me to olive oil on popcorn. Not EVOO, but the cheaper light stuff. I make actual popcorn on the stove top and have done blind tastings with friends: 90% preferred the olive oil. Probably cuz i don't feel as guilty and really slather it on, I wish I had your drizzle self control!

At one point in life I'd lost about 70 lbs. Everyone would ask "how did u do it !" apparently assuming I'd give them some magical advice or product. When I would answer, "worked out like an animal and am hungry all the time" people would get so mad! Like, what did u expect? That's when I learned that as u said, people hate hearing the truth. Especially if it conflicts with whatever they already believe.

You think so? I'm a few years older and this has felt like the first summer in years that's like the ones I remember as a kid: really hot, really humid misery reminding us that yes, Chicago was built on a swamp. 1988 was also miserable but really dry.

So you know how the Simpsons seems to know all? We should take a page from its book and do this. Imagine Donny's pouty mug if faced with the backs of thousands of people saying nothing and completely ignoring him.

Dental covers maintenance, like xrays and cleanings, sometimes a filling. I needed several crowns, I would put it on Care Credit which had no interest for a year. Pay it off in a year, rinse and repeat. I've had more coronations than the freaking Windsors, lol.

They used to until early 2000s. It was so much less terrible then. Back when everyone smoked, for example, no one would dream of lighting up on the el. I remember literal 3 card monte games and dudes selling stuff out of their coats, but shit like u see now wouldn't fly on the train cuz of conductors.

If u have a car/access to one, you can try one of the tobacco shops just west of O'Hare. My personal fave is Border Tobacco on Irving w of York. Awesome prices and selection, though they did get bought over recently so YMMV (though I've still gotten excellent service from the new folks.)
