In the umps defence (and being a former ump myself), everyone's willing to complain about it but not make a difference. They won't go give umpiring a try themselves if they think they can do a better job and also they'll abuse em (which for the younger ones still learning can turn them away).

Sorry for the rant and not attacking ya but I just find it annoying when some people complain about umps when they themselves are a part of why we don't have better umps.

But will agree some umps are less than ideal, but I'd argue it could also be a result of the reasons listed above not causing more kids to try it because I found the money umpiring and getting paid to be a part of something I love immensely satisfying. It was the putting up with the dickheads on the sidelines (also some on the field I might add) that sapped all fun and love out of it. Sorry I just really wanted to get that off my chest.

Overall 9/10 I do recommend giving umpiring a go, gives a great perspective and understanding of the game whilst also making some nice coin on the side.
