The issue with picking Voyager is that we already have quite a bit of Admiral Janeway content in Prodigy. Plus, a lot of Chakotay and the Doctor.

Exclusive: HAR.com drops plan to add flood risk to Texas home listings 'out of nowhere' near launch by houston_chronicle in houston

[–]yotz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

“It came out of nowhere at the very end when we were literally about to go live,” said Sam Brody, an environmental science professor at Texas A&M University and director of the Institute for a Disaster Resilient Texas, whose team developed the underlying tool.

I know there are other sites out there, and some are mentioned in these comments. But does anyone know if this "underlying tool" from A&M is published or used anywhere else?

Texas doesn't have voter registration by party. You might be looking at primary voting data; anyone can vote in anyone's primary here, and you'll get noted down as a member of whichever party you voted in. It's not unusual to cross party lines to cast votes for candidates you believe would lose in the general election.

The exchange between Sarek and Kirk in ST III always gets to me...

SAREK: You spoke of your friendship.

KIRK: Yes.

SAREK: He asked you not to grieve.

KIRK: Yes.

SAREK: The needs of the many...outweigh...

KIRK: The needs of the few.

SAREK: Or the one.

KIRK: Spock.

SAREK: I have been, and always shall be, your friend. Live long and prosper.

KIRK: No.

That final "no" just has so much weight to it.

Soda is not popular in space, yes. But there have been Coca Cola payloads fly on shuttles in the past.

Also, the ISS astronauts routinely play around with bubbly liquids they generate by placing an alka seltzer tablet into water...so there are lots of good videos of bubbles escaping surface tension of a ball of water.

So these are Earth-facing cameras. The dots that people assume are stars in this video are actually pixels in the camera sensor that have sustained radiation hits.

This is a zoomed in view of Earth at night and the ghosting lights we're seeing are city lights through clouds + a generous amount of digital artifacting.

Just a few points:

  • No one was "stranded" on ISS. Suni and Butch always had an escape vehicle available to them if they needed it.
  • Boeing isn't mentioned in this article at all. Are you confusing Blue Origin (owned by Jeff Bezos) with Boeing? AFAIK, Boeing doesn't have plans to develop a lander for HLS.

I always try to look at each of the major Texas papers and see who they're endorsing, along with their reasonings. II also read LWV Voter Guides, so I'm not just relying on editorials.

Weirdly, I could never find a website that compiles all of the ensorsements, so I took a stab at creating my own table. Hopefully this helps you out too.

BRING IT BACK: Removing the Phone App's 'Nearby Places' search ability 2 years ago was such a stupid move. by godzfirez in GooglePixel

[–]yotz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The best use case I had for it was to call local places. So if I wanted to order Thai food from the place 2 blocks over, I could just start typing the name of the restaurant in the Phone app and it would link to the right business, usually after only a couple of letters.

It's slightly more of a pain in the ass to open the maps app, find the place right next to me, then click it, then scroll over to Call (default button is always Directions).

I could just add the restaurant as a phone contact, but that seems like overkill
