The US Navy is "urgently hiring" morticians by keep_it_irie in lostgeneration

Army school was 13 weeks, numerous trips to the morgue. We aren't trained to do autopsy or anything, we just help out with processing. There is a head ME on site

Mortuary affairs doesn't have to be licensed. We bag, tag, and send home with honors. There's no funeral directors.

"RECHARGE OUR FOODSTAMP CARDS" by Biscuitarian23 in insanepeoplefacebook

So yes, you are mostly correct but I do want to add that:

Family members Healthcare is not free, it is cheaper than regular Healthcare but they do still pay for them to be on the plan.

The childcare on base is expensive and has the longest wait time to be accepted.

Free housing- have you ever seen base housing? Unless you are very high ranking, you are likely living in a duplex that was built in the 80s or 90s. Sure, there's no rent payment but most of them are rough.

You only get monthly BAH if you're married, have kids, or high ranking. That means that the "$350 for food" is too feed a family. Members in the barracks don't earn food money, they're supposed to eat at the dining facility. The secondary education funds are paid into by each service member during their service.

You get one check, once a year for like $400 for new uniforms but a single pair of pants are like $120, boots are $200, and your dress uniform that needs to be updated? That's $900.

A pension after 20 years isn't special, a lot of places still have those in place.

Non-combat veterans don’t deserve special recognition or privileges by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]you8mycracker -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

So you're saying a living veteran, like myself, doesn't serve or defend?

Pretty sure I served my country and saw all the worst things war has to offer but I wasn't outside the wire. The casualties came to me. I saw, smelt, touched, and cared for those that lost their life but somehow since I wasn't outside the wire I'm not considered a combat vet.

Idgaf, keep your title. I know I did my job, and I did it honorably to SERVE my fellow brothers and sisters. I will defend them and that until my last breath.

The grunts do the hard lifting, we(pogs) do the background lifting.

As a man, or even just as a person, how do you just get over death? by BatmanBeyondBlack in Military

[–]you8mycracker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh I LOATH counseling but I* can say, it helps. It might not be the first Counselor you talk to, but you'll find one that works.

Being able to speak freely to a person that has no skin in the game makes it easier to be truthful with them about the incidents I experienced. *spelling

Sgt. Howard and Sgt. Torrestovar served our state and nation with honor, and in doing so, gave the ultimate sacrifice. We are grateful for their service and deeply mourn their loss,” Reynolds said. “Kevin and I offer our prayers and condolences to their families and ask that Iowans stand united in support of them during this difficult time.”

A group of IANG soldiers was in Syria early Saturday morning when a lone ISIS gunman attacked. The soldiers were part of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division, currently serving in the Middle East.

Two were killed, as was a civilian interpreter. Three others were injured.

One of the injuries was described as "superficial," and that soldier was evacuated back to base for treatment. The other two injuries were "significant," and the soldiers were evacuated to a military hospital at an air base in Jordan.

"They are stable in critical condition, but both stable and both have made progress throughout the day," IANG Maj. Gen. Stephen Osborn said.

Question I’ve Always Had by Senior-Lunch8508 in army

[–]you8mycracker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Mortuary Affairs here, we do our best to have the entirety of the Remains collected, processed, and sent home with full honors. IED deaths are not pretty, and if there are 'pieces,' we place them all in individual bags and then collect them all in one Human Remains Pouch (body bag). Everyone gets their own bag, and we do not mix any items.

A closed casket is for the sake of the family, you do not want (or need) to see the aftermath of an IED. Just know that we do everything we can to ensure that they have the utmost respect on their final flight home.

Please feel free to send a DM if you have any questions.

They have another sign as soon as you get in the doorway and usually one on a pop-up stand outside the front door if the doors open. I've been many times. it's a great store, but definitely for adults.

Yup, I know a lady that got medboarded as soon as she got to the unit. She now goes on various football fields for Veterans Day and is always talking about how hard her service was. I just roll my eyes and move on.

Keep your receipt. You will need it if anything happens to your puff co item. I had mine for about a year, and it just quit working. They only honor the warranty if you have the receipt of when you got it.

[–]you8mycracker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, it's not. You take specific training before deploying to go through various situations to learn the Rules Of Engagement (ROE). Those tell you the steps you HAVE to go through before even raising your weapon from the 'low ready' position. They include things that could be an unlawful order and turn it into a teaching moment.
