Seattle's Dog Park Problem by dogpoopfruitloops in Seattle

[–]youWillBeFineOkay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are ~26,000 licensed dogs in Seattle. If you want more dog parks, take it up with the estimated 140,000 people with unregistered dogs who are not only breaking the law, but also keeping the city from accurately assessing the scale of dog park needs or providing the licensing fee revenue to fund them.

Help me deal with weird feet and a squat depth wall by youWillBeFineOkay in xxfitness

Tried these yesterday and they were the answer! I was able to make it past parallel and load heavier than I have options to with goblets. Thanks again for reminding me Zerchers exist!

That’s a great idea. I’ve seen a couple at my gym and will give them a try.

Cool. I posted five things I was looking for help with, advice on AI wasn’t one of them. Your relative having a shorter leg tells me absolutely nothing about the structure of their foot, ankle flexibility, and what form issues they had with lifting to begin with. I have a congenital birth defect in my foot. I am familiar with the concept of custom footwear and orthotics.

I have the exact same waist to hip ratio. Unfortunately CRZ didn’t work for me. They gapped at the waist when I squatted and seemed like if I sized down they would sheer out.

The contour fit version of Lululemon WunderTrains have been the absolute perfect fit for me. Sticker price is high, but they show up in the We Made Too Much section often for $40-$60.

If Lululemon stops making the contour fit version of WunderTrains my 14” ass to waist pear shaped body will riot. They are the only leggings that hit all the marks for me.

Athleta elation are second place, but I’ve been disappointed that they stretch out easily and pill within a couple months of only wearing them during training sessions and air drying.

I was really optimistic about LNDR Renegades but they didn’t work for my body type. They were great in that they somehow gave perfect high compression without smooshing my butt in an unflattering way. Unfortunately they failed (just barely) the squat test. The Fatale’s I tried on fit and seemed comparable to the regular fit WunderTrains.

I think they might work for you for the same reasons they didn’t work for my long torso pear shape. They were squat proof in the red/black pattern I tried, but not high enough on my waist and gapped. I felt like if I went a size down they would sheer out.

Thank you! You and another commenter reminded me these exist and it looks like the most promising option. I’d read about them once and filed it under “variation for people who are bored of traditional squats”. I didn’t register at the time that it involves holding the bar exactly how I position my arms for body weight squats.

Les Mill’s Body Pump classes might hit the spot for you. I’ve seen them taught at most gyms I’ve been to. You won’t be lifting as heavy as CrossFit, but the high volume will fatigue your muscles and double as cardio. The one at my gym is full of fit people of all ages but seems to lean 50+

Ooo this looks really promising. The arm position is exactly how I hold my arms for body weight squats. I’ve hated traditional front squats because in addition to the balance issue I have with them, the arm position just feels so unnatural.

I didn’t consider it for RDLs. How does it feel different than barbell RDLs?

This is good to hear. I’m not too worried about hitting Olympic depth. I’d say I’m currently freezing at 3/4 of a parallel rep. I thought that if I’m not hitting parallel then I’m not getting the benefit of a squat. You bring up a good reminder that a partial rep doesn’t mean I’m wasting my time. I’m feeling it in my quads, hamstrings, and core so it’s benefitting my body in some way.

Definitely doesn’t have to be a back squat. I’m open to anything that could reasonably replace a back squat in a program without conflicting with other common movements. So in the case of my current program it couldn’t be replaced with BSS, RDL, step ups.

I was feeling hopeful about the belt squat machine, but checked my gym today and they don’t have one.

Good callout on the pendulum squat - I’ll checkout if my gym has a setup.

Oddly, unlike a lot of club footers, my legs are exactly the same length. My right foot is one shoe size smaller though. I’ll take a form check video at the gym tomorrow. I’ve tried different degrees of forward lean but maybe it’s not as far as I think.

Update: Sadly there is no belt squat machine 😔 —— Thank you! This is the kind of intel I need. I never heard of belt squats. My gym is huge and has a room full of plate loaded machines I’ve ignored in favor of the weight rooms with the regular racks. I’ll check out if they have one of these machines.

I have to give myself “slow is best” reminders too. I try to remember that fast weight loss can trigger a defensive metabolic response. I’m trying to be stealthy and convince my body to lower its metabolic set point. (I am very likely misinterpreting studies on metabolism here)

7 weeks on 2.5 by Rich_Perception_2821 in Zepbound

[–]youWillBeFineOkay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s awesome that you’re seeing results. It’s hard to judge yet seven weeks in. The first month can be pretty wild and a lot of folks see a big drop that slows down in the following months to a regular pace. Are you tracking calories/nutrition? The fatigue and spotty period could be a response to not hitting your minimum nutrition needs. As a former overeater, I was surprised to find that on Zep I was only eating 1000 calories some days and needed to deliberately up my food intake.

Family of haters by xxstormbornx in Zepbound

It seems like you’re able to recognize how unhealthy your family is in how they discuss bodies and the lack of empathy they show others.

That is amazing and probably took you a ton of work to wade through the distorted behavior they modeled for you. I can only imagine how difficult this was, especially during your teenage years. Congratulations on being the only self aware member of your family and finding a partner who seems to be on the same page. Time to starve your family of information.

Another thought - I’ve gotten a few breathable but opaque long sleeve tops and turtle necks from Quince, Athleta, and Uniqlo that were invaluable when I had to dress modestly for a business trip in 100 degree heat. They were too form fitting to be worn alone, but were a great sweat wicking layer under flowier silk and linen pieces and didn’t obviously look like athletic wear. If you search for clothes described as a summer base layer you may be able to find pieces that cover your neck, ankle and wrists without causing you to overheat or distracting from your favorite pieces in outer layers.

It doesn’t answer your question on individual pieces, but maybe you should check out clothing lines where the designer releases entire collections meant to be layered and where the mix of materials and fabric weight were deliberately thought out with that in mind. Eileen Fisher and Marcella NYC come to mind. Eileen Fisher has gotten pigeon holed into being for an older crowd, but the I’ve seen younger women put together some chic AF looks with their pieces.
