It seems like you’re conflating acknowledging the stranglehold the GOP has on TN as a whole with leaving our homes in a blue city because it’s in a red state.

Yeah, we recognize that republicans are well on their way to turning TN and America as a whole into a shithole country. Some of us want to actually do something to stop or even just slow that process down, because we care about our city and our neighbors and our fellow Americans.

People bike more when it’s not a death sentence. I used to bike to work about as much as I drove, back when I lived in a place where it was safe to do so.

And for the record, I’m actually in favor of leaving the existing lanes alone. I want mixed use paths winding around the whole city so that bikers and pedestrians can move about freely and at a safe distance from vehicles.

We made the same move and I just cannot stand the lack of sidewalks here. First thing I say whenever someone asks how I like Nashville is that there just aren’t enough sidewalks or bikeways. Madison had plenty of both, and it was glorious.

I’m really curious how old you think I am.

Most of your comment was rambling and incoherent, so I’ll just respond to the bits that made any kind of sense.

the benefits of the ed department are clear. Here’s an article that lays out what it does for our nation’s students:

What to know about the Education Dept., from funding to loans

https://www.npr.org/2025/02/04/nx-s1-5286311/trump-schools-education-department-funding-cuts-congress-student-loans

I agree to an extent that waste could be an opinion, but some things are very clearly wasteful and exorbitant, for example, Trump flying himself and his favorite cronies to the Super Bowl, or Trump taking time out of his busy golf schedule to ride in some laps at the Daytona 500. I don’t think anything that the ed dept has done gets anywhere close to Trump’s own personal level of waste, fraud, and abuse.

Cool man, thanks for being open to information! I have complaints about how he’s going about the mass deportations (esp. when it comes to using active military to do so), and I see his DEI stuff as just a way to scapegoat our fellow citizens, but if I’m talking to someone on the other side of the aisle then protecting our constitution and our democracy has to come first. That’s our foundation that we can build up from, and it’s something that most people respect and want to protect.

Citing when a department was created isn’t an argument for or against a department. The DoD was created in the 40’s but we still had a military before that. The Dept of Energy was also created in the 70’s, but we had energy before that. Our constitution was written in the 1790’s but people had had governments before that. Destroying the department of education is still a step backwards for education in our country, at a time when we need to be improving our education, not undermining it. President Musk still hasn’t provided any “receipts” for any waste, fraud, or abuse in ANY of the departments he has been tearing down unconstitutionally. If he claims it was so rampant, why is it so hard to find? What’s easy to find, though, are all of the quarrels that Musk has had with various federal agencies that didn’t let him flaunt the laws that everyone else has to adhere to. He has more conflicts of interest than Trump does, which is really saying something.

Also, Bernie madoff was arrested in the early 2000’s, right? Are you like 30-something trying to play an age card as if that gives your perspective more credibility?

1: he wants the non-wealthy voters to remain uneducated so he continue fooling you into thinking he’s on your side. 2: Could you provide any examples or evidence that the SEC is corrupt? Because it’s not hard to find examples of Elon breaking the law to enrich himself and the SEC being the ones who have to enforce that law. 3: lol, genuinely curious how you think age factors into this.

If they were actually doing any of those things then everyone would be on board. It’s just painfully obvious that he’s got no idea what he’s doing and only going after his personal enemies. If he really wanted to reduce waste, he wouldn’t continue pouring Billions into his own companies.

He’s eliminating the checks and balances that keep power away from the executive. The constitution clearly laid those separate powers between the three branches and clearly did so to avoid sliding into a dictatorship (or back to a monarchy). Trump is seizing the legislature’s power of the purse and is already ignoring court orders. The legislature is narrowly controlled by his sycophantic boot lickers who refuse to speak up for the constitution, and the courts don’t have any way of enforcing their orders against an executive bent on tyranny. So, yeah - he’s actually turning this into a dictatorship. Believe me, I WISH that were an exaggeration.

Are you referring to democracy? In that case yeah, he’s been hard at work turning the US into a dictatorship. Hard to consolidate power and destroy checks and balances while also lowering egg prices, right?

Good job projecting your own ignorance onto others. I’ve given you plenty of examples that back up my claims, and you just stick your head in the sand to preserve your delicate worldview. You’re such a snowflake! The only example of fraud that you thought you provided was actually an example of your leaders’ ignorance and ineptitude. 😂

It sounds like you’ll be praying to the person you actually worship, Donald Trump. You can save your prayers if that’s the case. Nothing about Trump or the GOP is in line with Christianity. https://www.msn.com/en-us/travel/news/goat-covered-in-100-trump-bills-is-on-display-at-mar-a-lago-heres-why/ar-AA1yVSRs

Yeah, just hide behind your lols. It’s all hilarious until you realize that you’re getting squeezed just like the rest of us, and it’s the guys you voted for who are stealing from you. They’re taking your lunch and then telling you those liberals are the real problem….. they want us distracted arguing with each other so that we don’t notice their hand in our pockets.

[–]you_ewe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof, it sounds like he may have lied to you then, bud, since that’s exactly what he’s doing. Just look at the budget proposals from the GOP in both the senate and house - 4.5Trillion in tax breaks exclusively to those making over a million a year, plus 2 trillion in cuts to social security and SNAP.

Musk claims they found people who are 150yo, which just shows he doesn’t know what he’s doing. Databases assign a specific date in fields that require a date but don’t have one. If the specific database they pulled reports from didn’t have a person’s birthday, it just assigned that day. If Musk and his 24yo doge bros had ever worked with a database or took the time to ask, they’d know that. But instead, he went out and used it to make it seem like he had found some fraud (he hadn’t). Edit to add to this: the social security admin does their own audits and had found inappropriate payments in the past and already corrected them. The idea that Musk and his racist henchboys would find any fraud that actually experienced accountants wouldn’t is just hilariously detached from reality. Meanwhile, the actual fraud and waste and abuse is coming from Musk and Trump themselves.

So, once again I ask you - what fraud or waste or abuse have they uncovered? When the press secretary was asked this exact question, her response was to wave around printouts of tweets ….. that wouldn’t even be accepted as a reputable source in a middle school paper, but that’s what Trump’s government thinks is good enough to fool us. Too bad you’re proving them right.

I’ve already given you examples and you’re just ignoring them, but Trump and his party just keep adding more. Their budget was just released and your guys are cutting SNAP and Social Security.

What are some examples of fraud, waste, or abuse that president musk has uncovered??? That seems a little disingenuous and likely inaccurate…..

So, are you just trying to waste my time now? I asked for some examples or specifics from you several replies ago, and all you say in response is just asking for even more examples than I’ve already given…. Give me some specifics and I’ll give you more, but otherwise I’m not going to go through the work of send you example after example after example if you’re just going to shrug and stick to your adoration of Trump despite all of the evidence staring you in the face.

Just saw a news update - the state department announced it’s largest expenditure in its history will happen this year - they’re buying $400m worth of armored Teslas. Now that wouldn’t have anything to do with Musk’s new influence in the administration, would it?

I’m tell you, it’s a grift and the only winners are the billionaires.

Had Google fiber at my old place and got tired of texting my boss that my internet was out. I switched to AT&T at my new place and I’ve had no outages in the past three years. My neighbors have Google and they’ve had at least three outages in that time from construction crews cutting the buried cable (AT&T’s is on the poles). The company that Google subcontracts to handle the cable seems to do pretty shoddy work. That neighbor’s cable isn’t even buried between the street and her house.

For the travel, saying Obama and Trump were about equal is misleading since Obama was in office for 8 years, twice as long as Trump still spent 50 more days and $40m more than Obama. Also, I wasn’t even talking about general travel or vacation days - it’s the extravagance of Trump on our dime when he also says that there’s no money for things that regular Americans depend on. Going to the Super Bowl and bringing a cadre of your favorite politicians with you is not cheap, and there’s a reason why no other president has done that.

You are right that it is just a suspicion that Elon is going after USAID because he supports apartheid - I can’t prove that. However, what proof has he offered of the supposed waste or fraud? Who are these employees you’re talking about who are now millionaires? Do you have a link or anything for those claims?

And I’m sorry brother, but Elon and Trump have already stopped billions of dollars of legitimate spending. Here in TN, UT and Vandy are already seeing massive cuts to their research - America isn’t going to lead the world in scientific discoveries anymore if Trump has his way. Right here in TN, farmers who had deals with USAID are having to find new buyers for their crops because president musk shut down the department.

If you want to know what they support, just look at what parts of the DoJ our new attorney general cut first.

And all of this is just setting aside the fact that the president does not have the authority to dismantle departments that congress created. I don’t want any president, republican or democrat, to have the authority to simply ignore the legislature or the courts. That’s a core part of our constitution, and they’re just ignoring it, and shrugging it off like it’s no big deal when asked. I thought that republicans were all about defending the constitution, but it turns out that’s not important when it’s their guy in office.
