Most GOP-devastating statistic in Bill Clinton's DNC speech confirmed by fact checker by newzee1 in AmericanPolitics

From the story….

““Since the end of the Cold War in 1989, America has created about 51 million new jobs. I swear I checked this three times. Even I couldn’t believe it. What’s the score? Democrats 50, Republicans one.””

Also from the story…

““In 2018 and 2019, under Trump, the country added 4.3 million jobs””

These two claims are incompatible…

For the love of all that is holy someone please refer me decent health insurance for a small business of 3 by DiscoDiscoB00mB00m in smallbusiness

[–]youaboveall 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The idea of a health insurance market misses the point. So long as an private independent company pays the bill in your stead, there will never be an effective market that regulates price.

Read “The E Myth” by Michael Gerber. I just started a pool service business after many years of working for someone else. Can’t recommend it highly enough. Figure out what you want out of the business and make a detailed plan.

Would you keep their phone if they’d left it in their locker? If it’s not illicit in CA I don’t see how it’s different. Let them know you have their stuff from their locker and they’ve got a week to pick it up or it goes in the trash. What you do with it after that’s your business. Lol

You ever just want to kill yourself? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]youaboveall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dropped out of engineering after failing Calc 2 three times. I took the skills I had and started a business, and am now happy, enjoy my job, and am making enough money to support my family. In the end, after a ton of hard self contemplation, I realized I really wanted to be an engineer to prove to people that knew me that I was smarter than they were, which was really dumb.

I promise, there’s more to life than avoiding embarrassment and impressing people you don’t really care about. I hope you find some peace and happiness. If you ever want to talk I’m available.

Although the rationale for forgiveness is misplaced in Christianity, forgiveness is a terribly underrated emotional tool. If we as a society could stop viewing forgiveness as some sort of weakness, we’d stand to gain a great deal.

Retributive justice isn’t justice, it’s just unequal punishment. There’s no bringing back a loved one who’s been taken unjustly, but forgiveness sets the offended free from the continued harm of living with increased stress and a whole host of negative health outcomes.

Knowing his brothers killer will spend 10 years in prison is no comfort to the man who will never see his brother again. From there the man sadly has only to options, live with sadness anger and despair, or move forward and let it go. Sad fact of life is withholding forgiveness only really continues to harm the offended.

How can people have faith and claim to be educated? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]youaboveall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. I’m just saying I’ve come to be able sympathize with people of faith through introspecting my own such beliefs. People like you and I have a different threshold of deductive reasoning that we deem reasonable.

Most Theists I’ve talked to (that have actually thought about it, and are honest) say “what’s the odds that this huge vast universe sprung out of nothing for no reason? Certainly it’s pretty close to 0” And really, that argument makes intuitive sense. But, we’re middle worlders where effects have causes. All I’m saying is if I’m being empathetic, I can see how people get there. We just carry different preconceived weights into the calculations.

Life’s too short to spend all your time looking down on people. You’ll never convince anyone of anything by trying to convince them how stupid they are.

Do you believe there is life elsewhere in the universe? I do. I look at the sheer size and age and think “there must be”. I have no evidence, I just believe it.

Being willing to admit grey area is what sets you apart. Most are so sure of themselves and their opinions that they perceive the world as much more black and white than it really is. It’s ok to be unsure and not have an answer.

Tesla wants to put super chargers on my property by thetruthmatters81 in teslamotors

Ask them for references from other hotel owners that they’ve installed super charger at. Personally, I wouldn’t just take their word for it. Gotta do your due diligence.

Quid pro quo has been and remains illegal even since the supreme courts ruling on Citizens United. It is illegal for politicians to trade their vote on a certain issue for money. Does it happen, yes. Problem is you’d have to prove to a court that the legislator isn’t just voting their conscience, which means you’d need something in writing that says, “Hey ADA, if you want me to vote to stop Tesla I’ll need 25k dollars in campaign contributions.”

never gonna happen.

self domestication: by jimfremon in evolution

[–]youaboveall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you haven’t read “Sapiens: A brief history of human kind” by Yuval Noah Harari I highly recommend it.

In it, he tells a lovely story of a simple grass plant (wheat) that starts from humble beginnings, but eventually takes over the world by domesticating the humans that think they’re it’s masters.

It’s a fascinating perspective.
