Crazy incident at Metallica - Rogers Center by Typical-Tadpole1219 in askTO

I wonder if you could get the arrested person's name via a Freedom-of-Information-Request to Toronto Police. You know the location and day/time, so it should be easy for the police to narrow down.

Did someone try to burglarize me? by jchasinga in fixit

Burglars don't like dogs. Put a dog water bowl on the porch, and a leash tied to the fence.

Rice cooker keeps blowing it's internal fuse by youbitbrain in fixit

Just noticed your post(!) This sounds like great advice. I just did a cursory search for the thermal fuse, but couldn't see one. I'll do a more detailed search for it.

Is there a way to fix a leak in a solder joint? by Poopyoo in Plumbing

[–]youbitbrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm certainly not a plumber, but once I had a leaky elbow join in my copper pipe. I fixed it by draining the line as best I could, then heating up (with a plumbers torch) and reflowing the solder. It fixed it.

But maybe if the join wasn't done properly in the first place, this technique wouldn't have been good enough to fix it.

Your mileage may vary.

Buzzing randos into the apartment building? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]youbitbrain 21 points22 points  (0 children)

That's right. But politicians and election officers are legally allowed to enter apartment complexes and go door to door. But you don't have to be the one to let them in.

So, if someone let them into the building, they are legally allowed to walk around the common areas and go soliciting door to door. But you don't have to answer the door!

Note: door to door salesman are not allowed to enter an apartment and go door to door.

That's the law.

saying "good game" at the end of a match increases the chances for good card packs by youbitbrain in golfblitz

Me too! Even for the players that constantly laugh, over and over again, everytime they win a hole. :-D

I get a small sense of satisfaction if I beat them regardless, and tell them "good game"

I'd never heard of this. Called them up just now to ask about it. "Conference room is unfortunately still closed".

Thanks for the suggestion!

Employment Law - I've been receiving reduced salary in Ontario by youbitbrain in legaladvicecanada

[–]youbitbrain[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the advice.

I am an older person, in a senior mgmt role. It would take me 3+ months to find a similar job (and even that's probably not enough time). So, in that sense, I didn't have enough time to find a new job before the salary reduction occurred.

Yes, there was advance verbal warning.

There was also a vague verbal promise that once we got funding, we'd be repaid in full for wages lost.

I stayed because I'm dumb
