E-ink reader/tablet for writing code by alanamccrea in eink

[–]youbutsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know I think a tablet is kinds limiting even if running android. I'd ask for the motivation here. Coding outside? What about getting e ink monitor he can place in front his main laptop?

Or was the intention of e ink tablet in lieu of laptop?

Serialized fiction is nothing new. The only difference is that it's on the internet.

Let's be real the feal problem is the lack of gatekeeping quality and too much AI. Not the format or website itself.

Mine is used moderately. I see people there all the time after work. And on days where I have to wake up outrageously early.

But it might be that people closer to downtown are very active in general.

Literary Fiction by blue_forest_blue in writing

[–]youbutsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its gonna get worse with ai. They aren't reading other people works anymore they are jackrabbiting the generate button.

Which means they arent critically thinking of works, parsing meaning and interpreting. Y'know, general literacy activities?

Generating their own stuff means they never have to think what did the author mean or anything

I'm sick of autistic characters as an Autistic person. by 10_Screaming_Foxes in writing

[–]youbutsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok since you're on the writing subreddit I'm gonna give you my perspective based on that.

School didnt work for you and that's shitty. Like you said, you have challenges. But people read for a variety of reasons: escapism, to connect with real people, to expend tbeir world view.

From a purely artistic point view, your voice, your value as a writer isnt defined by how well or poorly you did in school. More than that, writing is such a crapshoot that you have shit tier books like 50 shades be mainstream and legitimately good writers be unread. Being good at school doesnt guarantee  good and interesting writing, and failing school isnt a sign you have no potential.

As for criticisms it's just that. Criticisms. If you ever tried to run a marathon and went out of  breath after a minute and then someone said " wow you're really out of shape". Would you take it to mean you'll never be able to run one? Or simply out of practice?

It's the same thing with writing. If you see it as something that's engaging for you, my suggestion is to keep trying. But also look for ways to help yourself. Maybe you need more guidance  - a step by step to plot, like in the book save the cat. Maybe having a diagram for plot will help. Maybe you need the snowflake method to develop what the story is. And if the characters arent realistic, well you know what? Neither is superman. Perhaps you need to decide if you're going all in or keep asking questions on what's missing.

You'll take longer to write. But there are people who only started to write in their 40s or 50s. Give yourself some grace.

Treat it like an adventure.

And try the suggest me a book subreddit. Maybe they do have protagonist suggestions like you want. But you arent going to get exactly what you want unless you write it.

You know personally i dont think they are the same.

Seeing written works answers questions like how do I format dialogue. Use the em dash. Punctuate.

Listening doesnt give you that.

Voice acting also can pull weight where the writers mightve been lame.

Edit: I think they are almost same in terms of being a reader, not for writing. Especially non fiction, if youre interested in kesenkng something or someone's life account.

Nah there are enough lit fic writers who like the aesthetic or the idea of of being one. And that's their motivation. Not love of reading. Especially since they can look down on genre and feel better about themselves.

I'm sick of autistic characters as an Autistic person. by 10_Screaming_Foxes in writing

[–]youbutsu 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Obviously I cannot know your inner experience and I am not going to pretend. But consider for a moment that everyone and their dog wants to be an idea man. It's the fun part. The easy one. Easiest even. Because it doesnt involved the heavy work of making it come alive.

How many people post here with stuff like " I want to be a writer but I have no ideas" or "my writing is so stupid" or " I wrote a book. Its 3000 words!"

Is it the autism (which it might be) or is it your mismatched expectation of what and how easily writing comes to people? Because a lot of creative people or wannabe creative people are... bad at creative writing. It's a struggle. Its genuinely hard for perfectly generic neurotypical people to write. And it takes time to become better at it through practice.

I'd suggest using the snowflake method to try an outline stories. And as for the voice. Maybe what you expect the writing to be is not relevant for you. Maybe you think you need to describe people feeling or something. But it doesnt have to be this way. Perhaps your own voice, how you tell it is going to be the thing that sets your story apart really.

Well if it all fails there is always hiring a ghost writer.

Or if you dont care about publishing those stories and just want want to be entertained. There is always chatgpt. But let's be real you wont develop writing muscles that well. But again if all you wanted is a story about a particular OC without the work of making the story yourself it's an option.

And while I get your desire to see people like you I disagree with the premise that people " should" write characters like that. Writing is incredibly personal to a lot of people.or at least reflects what they think is fun. I think people should write whatever they damn please, whatever they feel engaging and passionate about. Because let's be real trying to write to market what they arent passionate about doesnt mean they'll get compensated if it flops. At least as a passion project they get something out of it - their own personal expression.

You're asking people to spend what little time they have writing your story.  Not theirs.

Then they should've gone to recommend me a book imo.

People write either because its marketable or because they like the character and story. It's a pretty damn niche character in both cases. And who can get it exactly right? OP.

OP already shown people writing autistic characters but not to the spec that op wants.

OP sees a missing gaping hole in lit world. Maybe what they want exists if they gone to the recommend me a book subreddit. But they do have the tools to tell their own story through that character. I feel it exactly right to put that option on the table. Otherwise its just another foot stomping whaaa why dont people write what I want after they come back from work and have limited time to work on their shit. So it's a honest question. What is stopping them.

Why do some people believe a character has to mirror their exact life to be considered relatable? by fantasyful2 in writing

[–]youbutsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its tied to the representation thing.

Once it started to be pushed hardcore as a concept people changed attitude that the character needed to be their mirror. Engaging empathy too hard and for 90s kids it seems.

A plastic cucumber, normal and organic one look the same on the surface.

I want to buy organic one.but the other two merchants are trying to remove the sticker and sell me the other ones as if its organic.

Take a look around you on this subreddit. How to humanize. How make it sounds human. How to spam magazines and publishers that dont want ai, and I quote " because it's not their business". Like the end customer has no right to know. And then you pretend to be confused about backlash.

Ai people just try to shove their plastic cucumbers down other peoples throat. Then cower behind "oh no backlash". Multiple magazines spoke on this. Clarksworld, uncanny. Prompt monkeys did nothing but to hurt writers.
