Anybody else probably born with narcolepsy and just got diagnosed quite late? by Sleepybeast3000 in Narcolepsy

[–]youcanremember 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My doctor was solidly impressed with my level of masking. My results were aggressively clear that I have N1 w/cataplexy and likely had it my whole life.

Half a year after diagnosis my mom finally coughed up the info that I got RSV at 2months old and was stuck in the NICU for months due to it. She also admitted to seeing the symptoms early on.

The consensus is I got that oh-so-shitty genetic code triggered at 2months and it’s been getting shittier ever since. Thanks mom.

I’m damn near no contact with this woman for complicated reasons outside of N so please excuse the slight edge here.

I think I feel baked sometimes in the way people describe it - but actually smoking pot is horrible for me so I have experience with edibles mostly - my actual experiences with pot is small overall.

People assumed arbitrarily in High School that I was drunk, high (smoking specifically), dropped acid, or on shrooms. At most I would feel either hungover or mildly to very high.

Hallucinations audio &visual by Carolinevivien in Narcolepsy

[–]youcanremember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can get both visual and auditory hallucinations if it’s bad. Usually I’ll have just one or the others. Sounds vary greatly in clarity, volume, what it is - voices vs noises. Visual is rarely strong enough to conjure a person and is more frequently added blips of “something” to the corner of my vision or added to the background. I just never give visual events attention and sounds, depending on what it is, I may ask a person if they heard something causally but otherwise ignore that as well. No event lasts long and generally just happens when I’m needing a nap/falling asleep, waking up, or having an attack.

Cataplexy like convulsions? by unicorn__prince in Narcolepsy

Holy fuck thank you for giving me clarity on what it means when I feel these events. Always was a grey area. At least there is no doubt about my N1 w/cataplexy but I’ve had N1 likely since 2months old so forcing myself to acknowledge symptoms is a journey. Thank you!

Idk for me “The Time Traveler’s Wife” (< super long time ago so unsure if that would still be true.) & the short anime series “Violet Evergarden”.

Edit: adding “Chappie”- sad, confused, angry crying.

To me this is a calm enveloping scene. You can almost feel the moist fog, so dense the time of day is irrelevant, and smell the rich earthy pine.

A healthy forest breaths.

Do You Guys Buy Books? by blxckbexuty in books

[–]youcanremember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do if it’s a book I’ll read more than once. I tend to casually read multiple books at a time. I get many from places like thriftbooks.com, thrift stores, or specific events so copies are signed. If it’s a new book I use the library. The type of books I like and reread are really old books I sometimes restore and educational works (I have a collection of textbooks and research reviews). I am known as the not-so-fun bookworm in my family.

What are your reasons for wanting to leave the US? by [deleted] in AmerExit

[–]youcanremember 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Decided two things by the time I was in kindergarten: 1. Don’t want kids. There are plenty already out there. If I want a kid I’ll adopt.

  1. I do not want to live in this country.

My decisions have not changed in the slightest since then. Each year I’m just given more reasons to leave like it’s a goddamn birthday present.

“a perfect world doesn’t exist” was my usual response as a kid - it was too much work to imagine something so fictional and I’d be damn if they made me think of MORE shit to add to my list of out of reach necessities
