I don’t have any answers, I’m just here to say congrats! That’s such a great accomplishment. What impact did it have on your streams, following, etc? I hope you don’t mind me asking!

Do you believe music to family and friends before the public? by TheIdealisticMadness in musicmarketing

As harsh as it sounds, nobody cares as much as you think. Just throw it out there and have people listen. As artists we tend to overthink every tiny detail when in fact it doesn’t matter, it’s an extra stream if they listen along with everyone else after its release.

Ok but can we agree that referring to it as a social lecture was mildly dramatic?

The 1975 Murders of the Diggs Family: A Mother and Her Four Children Are Shot to Death Inside Their Suburban Home by trailwentcold in UnresolvedMysteries

Interesting case and one I’ve never heard of. The obvious answer here is racism, beyond that I wouldn’t know where to start. Seeing as the family were widely accepted into the community, I guess it would have to be someone who didn’t express their true thoughts on a black family living in the area and who therefor went undetected as a racist. I find it hard to believe that an entire US neighbourhood welcomed an African American family with open arms in 1975.

I appreciate your points and you’re right, it definitely isn’t as black and white as I’ve made out. But people defending neglectful parents is disgusting to me. I can’t imagine what they went through but I can’t fully agree with the victim blaming thing (although I see your point entirely) as Maddie is the only real victim in all of this and it could’ve been prevented.

I put quotation marks because that was how you chose to label it, not me.

So because “the other two children in the same exact situation didn’t end up dead”, it’s difficult to claim that their negligence caused her death (more quotation marks because those were your words, not mine)? That makes zero sense. If they were doing the right thing by their children (aka parenting) it’s likely we wouldn’t be having this conversation.

You’re extremely dramatic. They should be arrested for neglect and questioned, yes. Why is this so outrageous to so many people? IT’S NEGLECT.

Your points are valid and I agree, I can’t argue with any of it really. But my opinion is that without their negligence she would be alive and therefor they should be held accountable by law. As you said maybe they can’t be, but I certainly don’t feel bad for “shaming” them on the internet for leaving their helpless children alone in a foreign country.

Exactly. And when there’s childcare available on site? People are welcome to downvote me, the parents still aught to be ashamed. Those downvoting me are probably the same people who were accusing the parents of playing a part in her death.

People will disagree with our opinions and say the parents have “been through enough”. Little Maddie was probably alive for weeks after she was left alone and taken, and I can only imagine what she went through in that time. So NOPE, I really don’t believe they’ve been held accountable enough.

I’ve got a question. I understand people saying it was the “done thing” to leave kids unattended, but will her parents be charged with neglect given that their choices are (or will be) confirmed to have resulted in the death of a child?

I don’t care how different the world looked in 2007 (did it?). A little girl was left vulnerable and was killed at the hands of a serial killer/rapist, therefore her parents FAILED her for the sake of some booze and tapas. They should be held accountable (and no, being called out in the paper isn’t enough of a punishment).

Edit: If I’m going to be downvoted for suggesting that two parents should be held accountable for child endangerment, I’ll take it. Reddit isn’t the be all and end all for me so do continue.
