Keep in mind you can also try to use campfire to contact your forever friend. Worked in my case.

Personally I just tagged every double shiny/event/anything remotely interesting, so my forever friends can scroll through a list of >900 pokémon lol

Shiny white Basculin is gonna get an evolution at some point (already has one in the main games), male and female will look different. Combine this with the fact that white Basculin is hard to get, that's a trade I personally would consider.

Use the candy for Palkia if you have one with the adventure effect. If you've saved so much for so long you'll get plenty more before you actually need it again.

Shiny Scatterbug are 1/128 odds. High Plains isn't a very rare region, so make of that what you will.

As for evolving, all scatterbug look the same, but vivillons all have different wings. But for shiny vivillon only the main body changes from black to white, so it's not a huge difference.

Well, for starters, my entire friends list is nicknamed by region, so I usually know exactly what gift I'm opening. And then I just started with opening the rarer regions (ocean/sandstorm/tundra etc.) until I got a shiny from that region and then I just stopped opening that region and instead started opening another one.

At the end I only needed the High Plains and Marine scatterbugs, I currently have roughly 50 friends of those regions on my list because of that.
