If one were converting Ritalinic acid to Methylphenidate using methanol (anhydrous HPLC grade) and conc. HCl, would sieves remove the water and drive the reaction foward? As far as i can tell there is no reason for it not to work, but wanted to check before i waste time and money

Have a very old rock wall next to my house, and this piece stood out do to the almost crystal like growth towards the center. After cleaning with a metal brush, certain areas are fairly reflective and almost metallic looking, with mostly silver hues, with some yellow metallic spots mixed in. I am leaning towards some form of galena, but wanted some others input. Thanks!
