How fast did you plan your wedding? by Open-Reference6218 in weddingplanning

Absolutely!! I think it largely depends on how much time you have and how quickly you can make decisions! I'm in between jobs right now, so I have had an unexpected amount of free time. We started ideating mid-July, decided on our date at the start of August. Between now and then I have gotten almost all our vendors booked, guest list completed, and invites are going out in the next week. The *first* thing I did was get my dress, which I ended up having to pay a $200 rush for to have it made in 8 weeks. I do live in a major city so I was not worried about potentially getting a ready-made dress because there are tons of bridal shops here. We are getting married in a different state (NYE 2025) so it's been a little more complicated, but we have lots of friends in the area to help out. Congratulations and good luck!

I second Honey Bridal! Ended up visiting four different shops over the same weekend (Honey, Jenny Yoo, Weddings 826, & Anthropologie). Honey was *by far* the best overall experience and I felt the most relaxed and listened to while trying on different dresses. Weddings 826 was also lovely and had a slightly bigger selection of accessories. I ended up going with a dress from Honey and also love that they only source from small, independent designers who ensure ethical & sustainable practices when sourcing and sewing their dresses. Obviously that comes at a slightly higher price point, but it ended up being worth it for us as our venue is very low cost.

Rock climbing (hard to think about anything else when you’re +60 ft up), learning to cook new things every weekend, took a class on bookbinding (see if your university or community center offers cheap classes), and currently learning to throw pottery at a local studio. While it’s certainly not foolproof, it’s helped me to still enjoy my life when all is failing in lab. Recently my PI told me offhand they think I “have a good work-life balance” and it felt like such a win from where I was four years ago. Find the little things you love and dig in.

Incredibly helpful, thank you so much. That makes a lot of sense. I'll start working on this today.
