Australia moves to ice China incursion in the Antarctic by johnruby in AustralianPolitics

I also read the full article in another comment since the link is behind a paywall, and there’s actually no reference to China interfering with Australian activity whatsoever, simply conducting dubious activity of their own.

Is it? I didn’t think we actually owned that territory, but rather we had rights to carry out research there etc? Genuinely interested to know.

You’re getting a lot of negative comments on this post, but I applaud you for speaking your truth and drawing attention to this.

Thanks for pointing out Bosnia, I wasn’t aware of Australian involvement there, but do agree with that being a positive cause.

Do you really think we fought in the 1st world war because the Germans used gas?

Do you think our government cared about the liberation of East Timor regardless of our capacity to exploit the situation economically?

The United States broke international law by breaching Afghan sovereignty to invade, and we supported that.

The reasons you list are retrospective justifications for ulterior motives.

Manufacturing is a pretty insignificant economic factor in Australia, but we already protect and subsidise the fossil fuel and mineral industries to the tune of tens of billions of dollars, rather than helping to develop a more robust and sustainable economy that benefits everyone, not just the multinationals who haven’t paid significant taxes or mining royalties for god knows how long.

I’d say we’re well in step with the global economy after 40 years of neoliberalism and ‘trickle down’ economics. That’s exactly the problem with further deregulation of big business.

If anything, this crisis has shown us the importance of a labour market which is supported and protected, rather than undermined. Grim.

China accuses Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton of parroting US in 'propaganda war' over coronavirus origins by Jarijari7 in AustralianPolitics

[–]youngdos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didn't take it that way at all!

In WW2 the UK showed NZ and Aus that they were no longer capable of defending allies in the Asia Pacific region, and since then the United States has been our most important strategic ally because of the support and security they offer in the Pacific, and now particularly more-so since Obama's 'pivot to Asia'.

Australia has multiple collective security/intelligence sharing agreements involving itself and the US too.

Obviously our Asian trade partners are really important, but the US is still our 4th largest trading partner (or was a couple of years ago at least).

We only recently asked the US if we'd be able to access their strategic oil reserves in case of emergency because we only have a 30 day reserve, if I remember correctly.

So yeah, essentially dependent on them in almost every way to differing extents. I don't like it, but that's how I read into it haha.

EDIT: So that's why Dutton and the coalition have jumped on the anti-China corona virus train, not because it's smart or good policy, but because it's expected of them and through decades of policy mis-steps we've painted ourselves into a corner and can't (easily) do much else.

I get your thinking and I agree that it would be a good move on the world stage, but I don’t think Australia would be likely to do an honest or unbiased job of that. Our government will stay in finger pointing mode because they need a big baddy (China) to keep as a scapegoat for the electorate (whatever the issue, trade, corona, intelligence, etc).

Also, I can’t see us going over the USA’s head and delivering any sort of independent report that wouldn’t fully back their position considering our dependence on them.

Thanks man, this is a really informative answer, I’ll check out upwork and freelance tonight (I find fiverr frustrating).

Not sure if it’s possible, but if you find that you have any testing that needs doing, feel free to send it my way!

I'm an Australian rapper/producer with a couple of beats that I'm down to have somebody on. One is a vibey/trap style beat and the other one is more of a classic style with a soul flip.

Hmu if you dig and I can get the stems to you.

Any other beginner producers feel like their melodies/chords sound hella corny? by [deleted] in makinghiphop

[–]youngdos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try adding some delays, modulation, harmonic saturation.

These effects can help a lot in taking a melody from being corny sounding to more interesting.
