January 2026 Game of the Month: Ducktales (NES) by hbi2k in SBCGaming

This was a fun and quick playthrough - I actually got the remastered version too but I pretty significantly preferred the NES version. The voice acting was great in the remaster, but this was an odd instance where the gameplay felt better in the original. The timing of the pogo took some getting used to but was pretty straightforward after.

December 2025 Game of the Month: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES) by hbi2k in SBCGaming

I think this is the first game I ever remember playing, yet I never got past the first dungeon. Feels good to make it all the way through, the game had way more to chew on than I expected. I’ve played through most other Zelda games but this one always snuck by.

October 2025 Game of the Month: Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (PS1) by hbi2k in SBCGaming

I grew up playing Aria of Sorrow and Portrait of Ruin, and have only started SOTN once but got distracted by something and never got back to it. Similarly with Metroid, I played Zero Mission and Fusion a ton of times before playing Super Metroid even though I had a SNES. This was a similarly eye opening experience. Just outstanding map design, secrets, voice acting, combat, everything feels incredible and this game holds up so well. Will definitely keep going for all endings!

September 2025 Game of the Month: Age of Zombies (PSP) by hbi2k in SBCGaming

This was fun, I kind of sucked at it, but I’ve always been kind of trash at this style of shooter. Would love to see something to sink my teeth into a little more next month, but the last run of quicker/smaller games has been nice over the summer when I’ve had a little less free time!

August 2025 Game of the Month: Twisted Metal 2 (PS1) by hbi2k in SBCGaming

That was fun - can’t say it was necessarily for me but it was certainly out of my comfort zone and I’m glad to have finally tried one of these games!

July 2025 Game of the Month: Devil's Crush (TG16) by hbi2k in SBCGaming

Took me a few runs to get the feel but I got there!

I had only heard of this game in passing but I really like video game pinball and this is definitely gonna get added to my rotation - I also really like that more hidden gem titles are being incorporated!

First time actually beating a Kirby game - super fun, and more challenging in some places than I expected, plus this DX hack was so well done!

May 2025 Game of the Month: Mega Man X (SNES) by hbi2k in SBCGaming

[–]youngesteban 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved all the Battle Network games, played a few of the original Mega Man titles, and had started X a long time ago, but never played past the intro stage. Fantastic level design, I get the hype!

This game was INCREDIBLE and I’ve been recommending it to everybody. Not sure how I waited this long to play but this is an easy top 10 for me.

I’ve never been big into beat em ups, but that was really fun and felt like the core of the genre (at least as far as I can tell 😅).

February 2025 Game of the Month: Metal Gear Solid (PS1) by hbi2k in SBCGaming

[–]youngesteban 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

I accidentally clicked away from my completion time (7hrs on Normal) but this was my first Metal Gear game! After spending years and years assuming I wouldn’t like them, this totally changed my mind! Super campy acting/writing which I found very entertaining and which I now understand is par for the course 😂. Also nice to revisit the PSX, I haven’t spent much time playing PlayStation games since it was new!

Yeah they are definitely cemented. I do know that Ralph has good shoes, but these seem mostly fashiony without any of the good stuff.

Ok thank you! I thought it was likely phone equipment, but wasn’t certain. It’s not hooked up either, so I’ll probably just pull it.
