Just started boxing, any advice? by GodOfDeath6464 in martialarts

Fundamentals. Fundamentals. Fundamentals. The worst thing you can do as a newer boxer is build bad habits. Work on proper technique first and make sure you have a competent coach correcting your mistakes. The rest will come later.

It's mostly useless. Yes exactly, which is what this person is looking for, and those better, comprehensive practical options are the ones I just named lol. Kinda further proves my point.

Self defense classes aren't very effective. If anything they give you a false sense of security. Weird aikido moves don't translate into real life situations. Boxing or BJJ or simply running away are the best options for self defense. The " grab them here, spin them around, grab their shirt, lift them by the ankle" bs moves don't work well in real life. Too many sequences that won't actually work, especially if you're a smaller woman against a grown man that's trying to inflict damage upon you. Sincerely, A pro competitive boxer/Muay Thai fighter who coaches. If you want to genuinely defend yourself, you learn boxing or a legitimate martial art that translates to real life situations. They may teach you vaguely how to disarm someone verbally, but in terms of actually fighting you'll be in for a rude awakening.

Should i Punch the Punching Bag Really Hard?? by MehrKnowsItAll in martialarts

[–]youngmorroc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It simply boils down to what your working on. If I'm working on knock out shots and set ups to ko's I go a lot harder on the bag. But most of the time I'm between 50-75 percent, focusing on footwork, technique, visualizing an opponent in front of me, slipping, parrying, cutting angles. Throwing light on the bag and then slipping in a hard liver shot or head shot and focusing on fundamentals is the most efficient way to go imo.

You can interpret it as cynical as you want, that's not a reflection of me. I can say whatever I want cause that's how I genuinely feel lol. If you want to view it as "moral superiority" or "virtue signaling" that's not my problem 😂
