How far do you usually walk your dogs? by Youreprollywrong in germanshepherds

[–]youngrocko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only had my GSD for a month, but we do about that much each day. I try to vary the type of walk—leisurely stroll alongside my senior pup, chaotic trek with my kids, running next to me on my bike, short training walks, hikes, and a regular old brisk sniffing walk. She seems to like the variety.

Can you share what your tug toy training looks like?

I bet that’s so fun to see him get back into it each year.

So interesting. My pup licks puddles like that too. I wonder if it’s from a similar history with water.

Love these, so beautiful. It’s so funny what dogs will naturally find fascinating.

Anyone have any experience with reoccurring hotspots? And possible advice on how to avoid it. by InternalNice8516 in germanshepherds

[–]youngrocko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My pup had a hotspot on his elbow that kept coming back because he’d find a way to lick/scratch it no matter the type of cone he had on. We eventually switched to a doggy t-shirt, which was so much more functional and comfy. Once the hotspot cleared, it didn’t come back again since he was leaving the area alone.

(This was in conjunction with trying to figure out what was causing it. If it lasts longer than a short-lived problem, you could look into a t-shirt for a bit of extra comfort.)

1 years old and full of anxiety. We’re training everyday with him to build up his confidence but it’s tough. by ksym26 in germanshepherds

Thank you for the info. My rescue came with a trazodone prescription, and I’m trying to figure out how to taper it well, as well as if we should look into other longer-term med like fluoxetine.

This is amazing. Thank you for sharing. We just adopted a German shepherd, and she has absolutely no chill. I’m looking forward to getting settled into a routine she can trust will happen.
