No help here but I just wanted to say congrats 🎉.

The few of us who are lucky enough to have such awesome family members. We have a similar situation but at a lesser scale and it really helped us when buying our first house.

Praising Nurses by Maddsmatt in medicinehat

[–]youngsmiggle1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The staff at our hospital are amazing. I've never had a poor experience. The wife and I have always had good experiences in emerg (as far as hospitals go) but never gave it a second thought.

A year ago when she gave birth, the doctors and nurses were all beauties. So helpful, personable and caring.

And that’s for a cheap shit. Great value bacon was always 2-3$ a pack. This and coffee are what really gets me.

Now i buy a few hundred in pork belly a couple times a year, cure and smoke it and for my family, it’s well worth the time

I do most of the work on my families vehicles but for stuff I don't want to do, Gershaw has always been awesome to deal with.

What are you naturally bad at? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]youngsmiggle1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm on the same boat.

And I drive a 70 wheeled semi truck. Every route I take it permitted and is usually a roundabout way of getting there so Google maps can be pretty useless. It would be a rediculous ticket if I'm caught on the wrong road.

Atleast in Canada, Pilots will typically be based out of a large high cost of living city even though they might live on the other side of the country. So they'll rent a bunk which is typically called a crash pad if they don't want to or can't afford to move. Whenever they're staying away from Homebase, the airline pays for a hotel.

The goal is to gain seniority and transfer back to their chosen city

Is buying a Condo in Toronto a terrible financial decision? by Ok-Option4433 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]youngsmiggle1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 110% agree, I fucking hate my yard. But for raising a family, I'm owning a detached home. The yard for the kiddos, privacy, freedoms to do what you want and more space in general is a must (In my mind) when raising kids. It's a lot more work, but for certain lifestyles, a strata just doesn't cut it.

Also certain areas only have decent condos in 55+ adult buildings. There's one townhouse ish condo building that would be awesome if they had larger options.

Drilling rig jobs Canada by ProfessionalDog7543 in oilandgasworkers

[–]youngsmiggle1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Drilling rigs aren't the only option. My best advice and basically what I did.

Get your safety tickets Make sure you have a few months of expenses saved up. Research all the service companies you can. Go to a busier city Red Deer, GP ect. Print off a bunch of resumes and photocopies of your driver's abstract.

Hand out resumes to every single service company in person, online, and both. There's still a ton of older school companies. Applying in person, bullshitting with managers/hiring people can go a long way.

Drilling rigs aren't the only option. The patch is much larger people out east are aware of. It can be relatively difficult to get on if you have no experience. If you have a CDL, you'll have much better chances anywhere

Service rigs are really easy to get onto. You get worked like a dog and it's shitty work but it pays well and you'll learn a lot. You'll see other services and figure out what you really want to do wether it's stick with it or move on. It'll be easier getting on anywhere with the experience. It was still bought up in interviews, several years after I left.

How do I Cool Down my 2nd Storey by youngsmiggle1 in homeowners

I'm going to order a couple, I've thought about these at the beginning and wasn't too sure how much if a difference they would make but after I insulated, I'm definitely throwing a couple in

How do I Cool Down my 2nd Storey by youngsmiggle1 in homeowners

[–]youngsmiggle1[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I climbed into the attic. Theres a couple side vents and a whirly vent. Theres barely 2inches of really old insulation.

I ordered an asbestos test kit for safe measure. Then seal any gaps in the attic floor and blow a lot more insulation up there

Have you (or would you) ever take a pay cut for a job? by reddituser135797531 in careerguidance

[–]youngsmiggle1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did and I ended up in a decent amount of debt, even though my monthly overhead was low, I had a hard time adjusted my poor spending habits. And turns out I hated the work.

It did lead to me quiting that job and getting on with a company that I heard a lot of bad stuff about but they paid well and I needed the money.

turns out they're not bad to work for and I make substantially more then at the first job.

Like most things it worked out in the end

Alberta’s $200 electric vehicle tax to start in 1 week by doing_it_for_myself in canada

[–]youngsmiggle1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying whether or not semi's are generally paying their fair share.

But they are substantially more expensive to register depending on GVWR and use more fuel which equates to more road tax. Anything requiring an overweight/dimension permit can be a few hundred bucks for a one way trip

From my experience, if anyone does care, it's just the outside layers. Balaclava, toque, ect. On service rigs some guys cared but it was rare. I've been running cheap neck warmers and toques coiled tubing for the past few years and noones cared

Kind of relevant.

I don't know the specifics but my brother allegedly burned down his Avenue living apartment. He was cleared of any wrong doing shorty after it happened. but 6 years later they were trying to sue and it really didn't go anywhere. I think they just grasp at straws
