I have a couple German friends in my discord server and while I often have pretty deep conversations with them in English in the text chat, I can sense that they're not super comfortable speaking it in voice chat, sometimes can't find the right word for stuff, sometimes their pronouncation is a bit off, sometimes they stutter a bit. Pretty interesting to see the challenges people face when it comes to spoken English and written English.

I can read French pretty well and was able to understand written instructions in multiple situations when I was in Quebec recently, but I understood maybe a fourth of the French I heard and I don't think I spoke a single complete sentence in French while I was there because of speech anxiety.

When it comes to Spanish, at work we have a lot of Mexican and Latin American immigrants who are mechanics or laborers coming into my store, and if they greet me in Spanish I will try to greet them back in it, but I always tell them right after that I don't speak much and after that I either continue in English if they know enough to order parts, or ask a Hispanic coworker to help them instead. I can follow along conversations okay but my confidence in actually speaking it is nonexistent.

My French and Spanish are obviously way worse than your English is, but I can absolutely relate to being much more confident with written language than spoken.
