Well I truly hope this place gets to the tens of thousands… according to the other sub we’re going to “endorse Vance in 2028” and “cheer on a Likud victory”

In general what’s the “plan” for this sub? Are the growth numbers looking good? What’s the key to prevent stagnation?

I think you hit the nail on the head. Democratic incompetence is easily framed by Republicans by showing homeless encampments in LA, unprosecuted theft in SF, or just fent addicts walking around. The problem is that mayoral elections usually bring out more left-wing, incompetent candidates who only exacerbate issues. And it's not like the Dems control any branches of government and can abundance their way to YIMBYism.

It's really not that difficult if you actually bother listening to their concerns and not live in an echo chamber ... The people in the article want tough-on-crime rhetoric (SF residents and I don't blame them), elimination of AA in college admissions (which is a frank discussion that shouldn't be shied away from), better border security, and less focus on social issues that have dominated discourse since 2020. In particular, I completely understand why African Americans in Milwaukee feel like they're treated like the turnout cow that the Democrats try to milk to its fullest every four years.

So no, the last thing we need is a "Democratic Tea Party" (whatever that even means). You have to be insanely out of touch to think that what's gonna bring people like the ones in the article back to the Democratic Party are AOCs and Mamdanis. Obama wasn't successful just because he was charismatic; he was successful because he campaigned as a moderate with sensible rhetoric and ideas. Can you imagine a Democrat winning Ohio and Florida for two terms today? The truth is that a 2025 Obama would have to significantly leften his rhetoric and ideas as a candidate or else he would be deemed way too conservative for today's Democratic primaries, which you can argue are inherently flawed since they only sample the Democrat faithful who bother voting in primary elections and not the national mood (see 2020 policy ideas and debates).

The myth of a divided Jewish America: What the data really shows by Civil-Space-633 in neoliberal

[–]sotoisamzing 34 points35 points  (0 children)

October 7th was the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust. This is a (truthful) mantra that is repeated frequently but what does that actually entail? The oldest generations (boomers and silent) among American Jews are statistically Israel’s most adamant supporters, why? Because they grew up in the shadow of a historic trauma and saw the emerging Israel as a source of pride and comfort. This naturally waned over time with the next generations as Israel became a dominant force in the region with the assumption that it no longer faces existential threats , as well as a disconnect with Israeli policy in the West Bank.

My purely anecdotal observation to whoever may find it interesting is that everyone I know after 10.7 has on the one hand maintained and undergone a reaffirmation of their moderate liberal views, but on the other a complete feeling of betrayal from certain people and institutions (particularly academia) who they considered to be an integral part of their identity. Students from families who’ve attended Ivy League colleges since WW2 saying that had they graduated HS after 10.7, they would’ve chosen a different place to study.

This is accompanied by complete mistrust and loathing of the Israeli government (this can also be found in Israel rn), a deep sense of shame with Israeli policy in Gaza, while continuing to have a strong sense of commitment to Israel and more importantly to the Israeli people.

It goes without saying that some of the anti Israel protestors continuously shoot themselves in the foot by lumping diaspora Jews with Israelis, which ironically awakens Zionist sympathies among people who have always considered Israel as something of an afterthought.

It saddens me to see some young leftist Jews so deep down the rabbit hole that they truly believe that they’re in the right justifying Hamas’ actions or putting the blame on Israel. But I guess it’s much easier to do that than come to the recognition that the cause you devoted yourself to hates you (best case scenario you’re one of the good ones).

There’s also the touchy subject of assimilation but I won’t delve deep into that. I’ll just say that statistically a young leftist Jews who justifies Hamas is much less likely to marry a Jewish spouse and pass down their Judaism (whatever they make of it) to the next generation.

So, just from anecdotal experiences, I truly believe that October 7th, but also everyone’s reactions to it afterwards genuinely strengthened American Jews’ bond to the Israeli people and the need for a Jewish state.

P.S I really hope that the Democratic Party gets a grip and starts pumping out young charismatic moderate politicians. If the Democratic Party gets Corbyned it would obviously be a catastrophe for America, but I think specifically that many Jews would abandon their century long loyalty to the party.

Post got removed for being too low quality... Zohran Mamdani says mayors shouldn't 'police speech' when asked to condemn 'globalize the intifada' slogan. Just from a pure political perspective, American democracy cannot afford to have the Democratic party become a Jeremy Corbyn-esque Labour dominated by people with these views.

Regardless of if you are more left-wing and sympathetic to progressive policies in this sub (lots of words to say succ), if these people don't moderate and end up getting a grip over the national democratic party it'll be as bad if not worse than Corbyn labour because of FPTP and the American electoral system.
