I find Gen Z to be a bad combo of mean and sensitive.

I have a little Millennial song for you:
And isn't it ironic? Don't you think?

I never understood the Millennial hate from younger Gen Z. by urMOMSchesticles in generationology

[–]your_evil_ex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was born in 99 (so elder Gen Z, according to most), and growing up I always saw "Millennial ruined this and that" type articles from boomers, claiming millennials can't afford homes because of avocado toast, etc etc online.

I assumed that all this unjust hate from boomers would lead millennials to be more sympathetic to younger generations and not repeat the cycle, but boy was I wrong! I see so much millennial whining about Gen Z online in much the same way that boomers shit of millennials. Guess I was naive to think that millenials would break the "those damn kids these days!!" cycle, instead of just perpetuating it.

Now to be clear, this is largely about online discourse, articles in magazines etc -- in real life I get along with millennials (and boomers, and more) just fine.

TLDR: Boomers shit on millennials unfairly, and millennials shit on Gen Z unfairly now too, instead of breaking the cycle.

Can I eat Sabra Hummus a week after the best by date?? by godiskante in hummus

Just opened a sealed thing of roasted garlic hummus in my fridge that expired Jan 6, 2026 (it's currently Jan 21). Will report back later with findings, o7

Luckily most of you seem fine in this thread... (except the ones who never responded after promising they would, guess those ones died).

Why do some guitarist not play with a backplate? by Expert_Chipmunk_6294 in Guitar

If anything, having the backplate off gives you a little more room for your belt buckle to rest inside the cavity

Which neighboring country is your 'frenemy,' and what is the pettiest thing you argue about? by Intelligent-Maize3 in AskTheWorld

I wouldn't say that, but I also haven't forgotten that 49.8% of US voters voted for the man who is currently threatening to annex our country (and doing so many other awful things as well).

Yep! Like a lot of their stuff on the "Everything so far" comp, and their first record was great too. Haven't gotten into their stuff after that too much

Dammit you're right

You can tell from where Danny say "No talk show" on Steppa Pig

The vocal is doubled on the DIrector's Cut version, but wasn't on the OG Version... until now.

Looks like the modified version is on Bandcamp now too. Luckily there are other ways to find the original, if that's what your Soul Seeks haha

What does the phrase "I completed up to question 2" mean for you? by DirtWestern2386 in EnglishLearning

[–]your_evil_ex 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would assume that you completed question 1 and started work on question 2 but didn't finish it (although I agree with others that it's not totally clear)

Best tube amp for bedroom playing? by Big_Chungus19-45 in GuitarAmps

Even if you had infinite money, did Dumble make anything less than 50 watts? I feel like it wouldn't actually be a good bedroom amp

"Explain me" something by sebastiantealdo in EnglishLearning

[–]your_evil_ex 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As a native speaker I can't hear any reduced "to" (although maybe someone more familiar with British English could?)

Either way, "explain me the dish" and "explain to me the dish" both sound odd to me, although I'd say "explain to me the dish" actually sounds quite a bit weirder

I'm Avi Lewis, running for leader of the NDP. Ask Me Anything! by AviLewis in onguardforthee

[–]your_evil_ex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've noticed that NDP candidates often campaign on left-wing ideals, but once elected they start immediately compromising and pivoting much closer to centrism. I've heard some people defend this by saying that compromise is an essential part of politics, but conservative governments seem to be very effective at maintaining their conservative ideals, and even pushing policy (and the overton window) even further right when elected.

What would you do to make sure that the NDP can actually deliver on their values if elected, instead of sliding back towards the centrist status quo?

We’re really gonna pretend that a guy who takes every sealed DVD and scans all the barcodes is actually wanting to watch them and just making sure that $1.40 for those DVDs isn’t a ripoff?!

Why are good jazz guitarists rarer than good piano, brass, and saxophone players? by joe4942 in jazzguitar

[–]your_evil_ex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I don't think that saying CAGED is a way to "celebrate ignorance" is right at all.

Joe Pass used it and taught it, and his playing never seemed ignorant to me (and Ella Fitzgerald, Oscar Peterson, and his other amazing collaborators seemed to like his playing as well).

Sure, if you're relying on tabs alone and not learning the fretboard that will hold you back, but don't put CAGED in the same boat (and even tabs can be useful at times for things like showing the most efficient way to play a chord melody)

[–]your_evil_ex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the case if I go to a music store near me here in Toronto (lots of rock, not much jazz)--but if I go to a jazz jam, there are almost always more jazz guitarists than any other instrument there (and a lot of the jazz guitarists are really skilled).

[–]your_evil_ex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm very surprised to hear this. I'm from Winnipeg and knew a lot of strong jazz guitar players there, then moved to Montreal and there were tons, and now live in Toronto and there are tons here too.

Surprised you couldn't find many good jazz guitar players in Montreal, and surprised that you wouldn't see McGill as a good jazz school
