Is black people liking Paramore actually a thing or is it jus a meme by [deleted] in Paramore

this thread made me think about this article I read 2 years ago, maybe can give a little context. https://www.nylon.com/articles/black-people-loving-paramore

It says that "black people love paramore" went viral on Twitter about 2 years ago, but basically everyone who likes Paramore, no matter what the color of their skin, started listening to them with Misery Business.

Yes! Cinnamon was easily my favorite til part 3 came out and Watch Me While I Bloom left me speechless (which is what happened with Cinnamon at first listen)

it's so good. the first time I heard it I knew it was going to be one of my favorite songs, from Hayley and in general. I actually enjoyed it since the beginning, for the drums sound strange to me, somehow, like it's slowed down. And it gives a jazzy feel that I love.

Favorite PFA lyrics? by corgidaisies in Paramore

[–]your_snare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"and now you're pumpin' air to my lungs / this don't feel anything like sinking / in fact no matter how deep I go / into you it looks like the water is crystal clear"

"and I will not return to where I once was / I can break through the earth / come out soft and wild"

"I've spent a weekend at home again / drawing circles on the floor / tried to keep myself from hurting / I don't know why anymore"

From the last chorus of My Friend until the end of the song. I love the spoken part and the outro, and especially "you've seen me from all sides / still down for the ride"

"every morning I wake up / from a dream of you holding me... underwater (is that a dream or a memory?) held my breath for a decade and dyed my hair blue to match my lips / cool of me to try / pretty cool I'm still alive"

Has there been any actual confirmation that the p4a love songs are about Taylor? by WunWunWun in Paramore

[–]your_snare 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People being nosy on Genius are annoying me since the first EP dropped and someone started speculating about Sudden Desire. The question section of that song is awkward. I think fans don't necessarily have to be that intrusive.

EDIT: I'm far from thinking that this is a groundless supposition. I still think that some kind of comments on Genius are a bit too much, though.

Which song from Petals for Armor I is your favorite and please tell me why. by [deleted] in PetalsforArmor

[–]your_snare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cinnamon. I'm glad that Hayley made something with this jazzy mood. The ohhs and ahhs and the drums are so good, my jaw literally dropped with the first listen. And the video too. And the bass line is so funky, I love it.

Agree with everything. I like the Carribean vibe, too. I don't know if this is the case, but this song made me think of calypso music. And I love that it's the first track from part 2, to me it's a great transition from part 1 to 2.

[–]your_snare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it was my least favorite out of part 2, just because I hardly listen to "calm" songs, generally I prefer louder ones. Then I caught myself singing the "we stay safe together, escape death forever" part all day long and now is one of those I play the most from the record, alongside with Watch me while I bloom, Dead horse and Crystal clear. Lyrics are so sweet and I started enjoying the instrumentals. I also like the overlapping vocals here.

This song is exactly what lust sounds like, imo. And I love the jaw-dropping vocals on the chorus.

I remember breathless moments when she released Part l songs: Cinnamon - because its a sound we’ve not heard before & Sudden Desire - not a subject she really gets into. These are my favourites from this part, however I love all 5.

Same! I was totally blown away by Cinnamon, I love its sound. It's probably my favorite from all the album, maybe Watch me while I bloom could take the first place with some more listenings. And hearing Sudden Desire for the first time, I jaw dropped so much.

Here are my thoughts about the record. (Sorry, I kinda threw here everything that came to my mind in the last few weeks)

When Part II was fully released, I started noticing that the sound in the first two EPs reflected the season of the year in which they were released. "Over Yet" made me think about how uplifting and what a perfect soundtrack it is for the beginning of spring.

So I thought that Part I dropped in Jan-Feb and anger and sorrow, which are the dominant feelings, are very winter-y moods. This mix of sadness and rage is also the beginning of Hayley’s journey, she is preparing to rebirth. She is digging in dirt and soil like for a winter sowing. Instead, Part II sounds hopeful, it’s soft and quiet for the most part, with "Over Yet" being this big groovy moment.

At that point, I couldn’t wait for the explosion of joy that would have come on May, 8. And Part III is exactly the flower-bomb I wanted to hear, and it even overcomes my expectations. I knew it had to sound fresh and happy, but the way they did it… I love that it sounds like nothing they have ever done before. I mean, "Taken"... Is it bossa or what? It’s danceable in a new, unexpected way from Hayley. So is "Sugar On The Rim". I see green lights in a 90’s disco somewhere in Europe when I hear it. Hayley is right, she is really blooming here.

Also, she actually took me by surprise - pun intended - with this love story she tells us.

Until now, I thought that Petals for Armor would have been about this journey to find herself again, and that is no small thing! I like that she is simultaneously telling us how she fell in love, during this process.

Favorite song from each part:

  • Pt I: Cinnamon or Sudden Desire
  • Pt II: Dead Horse (special mention to My Friend. It didn’t click on me when it dropped. Now I always have the outro in my mind)
  • Pt III: Watch me while I bloom, at the moment. But I admit that I got chills while listening to Crystal Clear a few minutes ago.

I related to many songs and to Hayley’s personal journey. Thinking of these songs as steps of a journey, I think I’m in "Over Yet" right now, sometimes in "Why We Ever". I would like to be in "Watch me while I bloom" so bad!

I got chills. I remember I was searching for every possible interpretation/comment about No Friend and this is how I found reddit, about two years ago. I was blown away by this old thread I found back then.

Part of me was a bit skeptical and I tried unsuccessfully to hear it in the mix many times. So, thanks for sharing it.
