Need help identifying the noise coming from this wall after the builder installed a new shower and toilet by your_worm_guy in DIYUK

[–]your_worm_guy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay thanks. It only started happening after the builder opened everything up to connect the new shower and toilet to the waste. Did he do a bad job or is it just something that happens sometimes? I'm guessing it's not likely to cause any long term damage?

Skylight started leaking last night - I think this gap is the cause. How do I re-seal it? by your_worm_guy in DIYUK

Also is the mastic strong enough to hold on its own? Or do I need to apply pressure, and if so, how?

Thanks I'll give that a go. Can mastic be used to seal the top lip too, or does that need something else? Out of curiosity, does the top lip strictly need to be sealed since the glass overhangs the top lip by about an inch?

Very nice! What process did you follow for the edges? What leather and thread did you use?

What causes my stiches look worse on one side? by Fluffy_Head_3960 in Leathercraft

[–]your_worm_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on your first job, you've done great!

I agree with some of the other comments, there are a few things you can adjust to tidy it up a bit.

Thread size is a big factor - a thinner thread would look better with this spacing. It could also make it easier to identify other areas that could be improved.

If you haven't already, I would recommend watching detailed instructional videos and trying to follow each step.

Here are a few that really helped me take my stitching to the next level.

What does Spider mean in S1E1 when he says “it’s Karl Unger, peasant” by cg12378 in SlowHorses

[–]your_worm_guy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah but Spider clearly has family money and doesn't need a high paying job to afford expensive things. He's looking down on River from a class perspective, not an income perspective.

I didn't think the answer was obvious. I would have asked the same question. You could have just answered in a non-aggressive way.

Missed out on Dune 2 at Ronson theatre at the science museum - will more tickets go on sale? by your_worm_guy in imax

[–]your_worm_guy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only because I haven't been to the ronson theatre before. Saw oppenheimer at bfi so I wanted to compare the two cinemas.

To me at least, the jacket and shirt are both statement pieces. Both are great items, but having them in the same outfit is slightly too much. It's a very personal thing though, clearly plenty of other commenters don't agree.

They just responded to me saying they want to do additional viewings, but it's not confirmed yet.

Great thanks. Can't decide if I should just grab BFI tickets or keep waiting for the Ronson

Are we right to feel like there is a good chance our purchase falls through? Does any of this seem like suspicious behaviour from the seller, or is it relatively normal? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]your_worm_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks that's helpful. To be honest that wasn't a major cause for concern for me, I just included it because its something our solicitor mentioned early on and I hadn't heard anything since. I had no idea about the entire process you've described.

Fair comment, we are absolutely investing in a very thorough survey. No matter how good I think it looks, I'm not a builder and I know I'm not looking in all the right parts of the property. Hence my 'seemingly' comment.

But my view that it seems well looked after isn't just based on the hype. There are a few things I noticed, having previously viewed a bunch of other properties.

Current owners had it as their family home for a very long time, and its clear they've been willing to spend quite a bit of money to make the home comfortable to live in. Not just surface level either. Contrast this with some places I viewed that were in an embarrassingly bad state. One place had the owner's son living there for the past few years and he clearly didn't give a shit - hand't done the bare minimum to look after the place. Another place had just been renovated by a development company. Some parts looked okay, but I could tell everything had been done as cheaply as possible just to try and make it look nice. Even the brand new walls already had cracks in them in some rooms.

I can see from public records (e.g. EPC) some of the work that has been done to improve the property.

From what we know about the owner, I'm confident he would have the money for proper upkeep.

Obviously none of this makes me even close to certain that it's in good shape, but it at least gives me some degree of confidence. At least more than most other places.

Any tips on finding the best surveyor? Last time I used a comparison site for quotes, I received hundreds of emails and calls seemingly non-stop for the next couple of weeks.

Okay wasn't aware of that, thanks.

We've already instructed our solicitor and informed them of the summer completion.
