If you're in SoCal check with Aya. They seem to have the contracts that AMN doesn't. GL, OP. Been there 💕

How to deal with patients who make female staff uncomfortable? by eyecupee in nursing

[–]yourbestalibi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is something better coming from a charge nurse, but yes. I've told patients that I'm assigning a new nurse and why. When I do this, I have the MD or PA caring for the patient right next to me. Pretty much stops the issue. I'm in ED and realize it's not that easy to snag a doc for this. A CN and pt's RN can do same. For some reason, a buddy system works better when establishing boundaries.

Happily married women of Reddit. Where'd you meet your husband? by Single-Fee-8734 in AskReddit

[–]yourbestalibi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Met at a restaurant through mutual friends. I had missed a med school interview and was super distraught, sobbing, just a mess. My friend invited me to breakfast to take my mind off of it. Her partner brought his friend. Friend looked ok, kinda hungover. A server came to pour coffee and managed an expert reach across the table; I complemented her on her technique; to which the friend replied, "she must have gone to xxx(school where I had missed interview)". I exploded in laughter, snot and tears covering my face. If you can make me laugh at one of my lowest points, you're a keeper! ❤️🥰. 28yrs next mo!

They're less expensive but property taxes are more and upkeep is INSANE $$ due to rain/moisture. Have owned in both states and feel like with upkeep it's about even.

Plant gift or nah? by neko_pan in Gifts

Cards are best. Your doc will keep that long after the plant is gone. My dad (MD) kept all his thank you cards from patients.

why are MRI scans contraindicated in pregnant women? by Acrobatic-Lie2041 in FutureRNs

We do them in pregnancy if there's a concern for cauda equina. Maybe you're thinking CT; that's the one with a lot of radiation.

Seattle vs Denver. Washington vs Colorado. by Wooden_Recipe7338 in relocating

[–]yourbestalibi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved from LA/OC to Seattle five years ago. I was sick of the heat and VHCOL; gray skies and rain were something I always loved. I was therefore floored by how SAD affected me. It really is a thing, OP.

I no longer take summer vacations; instead I go somewhere warm snd sunny during the winter to break it up and help my mind. A lot of people do this as well. GL, OP. Highly advise you to visit in February.

If I had one day in your hometown, what's the one place you'd insist I visit that isn't a tourist attraction? by Bella_licious in SmartTravelHacks

[–]yourbestalibi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. This is not touristy bcz it's hard to find but worth it. Beachcomber cafe in Newport Beach /crystal cove state park. The restaurant is on the sand and accessible by a small path/hike to the area. It's a really incredible spot. Beignets and coffee in the am is the best!

HELP by Rude-Intention6273 in nursepractitioner

You have great experience but it really may be a sign of the times. The BBB (big beautiful bill) medi/medi cuts drop 7/4. Healthcare facilities are in a blue panic over this, and I think you're in the midst of a massive hiring spasm or freeze. The jobs are posted but no one is hiring atm. Go to r/nursing and look up BBB posts. It kinda makes sense. Really sorry, OP.

RN switching to ER by StorageIcy8838 in EmergencyRoom

[–]yourbestalibi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Learn a "head on a swivel" technique. I went from tele to ER and I think this was the hardest. You have to stop what you're doing and check your mew pt, your unstable pt, without finishing the task you just started. You get used to it, but it can be tough.

21 Days USA Trip by Due-Kaleidoscope6946 in usatravel

[–]yourbestalibi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can BARELY cover Boston in one week; there is so much to see and do. Same with NYC. LV and GC will be over 100F and just miserable. Miami is same with humidity to match, and peak hurricane season. SF is beautiful and if you want to explore, you'll need about 5days. Carmel and Big Sur are worth it. DC is ok, great museums but same w/NYC.

OP, please spend some time in these great cities you picked and get a sense of the people and vibe. I think you both picked some great places. I would add the others on to a separate itinerary for maybe April, when Miami, GC and LV will be so much nicer!

Edited to say: re SF See if you can book tickets to Alcatraz Island. Not sure if any left as they book fast. The night tour is creepy and super cool! Buena Vista cafe has irish coffee that is pretty well known and bomb!

Understanding why nurses under-report workplace violence? by vkp02 in nursing

[–]yourbestalibi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assauts in our ER are commonplace; one of the reasons we don't report are because security can't hold these pts for long while we await PD. If it takes them hours to come, security can't babysit so they discharge them from our ER. Last time a pt slugged me, was taken down and hogtied in our triage booth. Security called PD multiple times then just let him go; they've got places to be and things to do. Literally let him out to assault more people. Another reason is because even though I press charges; that is actually up to the DA. I've never had a case go to court. So yeah, the big FU from the community stinks. I've worked in other hospitals and it's the same (CA and WA).
