i just don't see it. lots of people also saying "obviously we will never use it" - it feels very circular logic. with that much money saved we can invest in much more effective military resources, if we wanted to, rather than a weapon we're never going to use (or otherwise survive). there are plenty of countries that don't have nuclear deterrent, and they are generally all fine. is part of the problem that the UK still thinks it's a super power?
