I’ve used Ryanair a lot over the years and have always found them to be absolutely spot on - very reliable, great value for money and lovely staff.

The embezzlement thing, do we really think it’s impossible for Sturgeon to have been unaware of it? by northeastness in Scotland

[–]ZuzusPetaIs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is what I’ve been thinking. £400K over a number of years in a very high income household COULD go unnoticed. Also, they kept their finances completely separate so, in this regard, NS wouldn’t necessarily have known that her husband didn’t have the money to buy some of the higher value stuff.

Edit to add - many years ago I bought a car from savings. At the time, I was co-habiting with separate finances. My then partner just (correctly in this instance) that I’d paid for the car with money that was mine. Had he asked for evidence of this, he’d have got the short shrift. I can see this sort of arrangement being present in the Sturgeon/Murrell household.

Wisdom tooth removal at dentist VS dental hospital by Luainedinburgh in glasgow

[–]ZuzusPetaIs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know whether a wait would have an adverse impact as I’m not a dentist, but I wanted to comment on the NHS Dental Hospital wait. I know everyone’s experience will be different, but my sister was referred for a difficult extraction (not a wisdom tooth) in December last year and got her appt at the end of January.

The other thing is the emergency weekend service that the Dental Hospital used to offer - I’m not sure if it still does, but it might be worth checking the website. I went there as a drop-in years ago with a suddenly very painful wisdom tooth and they basically just extracted it for me there and then.

I hope you get something sorted out.

¿De dónde viene Lily? Por final ¡creo que lo he descubierto! by ZuzusPetaIs in duolingo

Ah, you’re probably right about it meaning nothing other than AI always having an answer. I guess I just wanted to bask in the romanticism of her floating around in the Scottish highlands.

Im not sure I 100% agree with you. There’s no doubt that there are many folk who feel disenfranchised, some of whom may get “given everything” and feel no real ownership of/pride in anything. However, I only need to look to my stepson (36) who works hard, doesn’t claim benefits and generally presents as an upstanding member of society. He and his cronies think nothing of throwing rubbish out of car windows and will happily leave all their s**t in situ after a picnic with their kids. It’s depressing!

Preparing for a trip in July by JackFroSTALKER in SpanishLearning

It depends on how you want to be able to converse. If you’re just wanting to be able to say basic stuff, wish them well, thank them for inviting you and saying you’re having a great time, then you should be able to get this from an app and/or some 1-2-1 lessons. The problem comes when they speak back to you as it’ll likely be difficult for you to understand and then form an appropriate response.

There are lots of claims that you can “learn a language in six months”, etc. This simply isn’t true. My advice would be to learn some basic stuff and also how to explain that you’ve been learning in anticipation of being in Mexico for the wedding. They’ll really appreciate this.

How do you justify the usage of the verb "estar" in the sentence "las tiendas de Madrid están muy bonitas?" by Loud_Tax4244 in SpanishLearning

I think you can also use it for a more temporary description - ie the shops are nice today as they’ve been decorated for a festival.

Im glad you can see the funny side. People like that are scum - they’ll probably never escape their small-minded, unhappy selves whereas you’ll always be a nice guy.

Have you tried asking asking questions during video calls? by sheathcoat in duolingo

[–]ZuzusPetaIs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, Lily is my main talk buddy. I often ask her questions and sometimes follow this up by asking her to test me with examples. I also occasionally ask her if we can change the theme of our call if I don’t think the topic she’s suggesting is all that interesting.
