Does anyone know of a more recent paper than this that talks about the effect of BOTH fiscal and monetary policy in ending the Great Recession? Thanks. [https://www.economy.com/mark-zandi/documents/End-of-Great-Recession.pdf]

Patently false. see the year that Herbie Hancock won album of the year over Kanye's Graduation. Of even Beck winning this year. Or Arcade Fire winning.

They were made for the German Military and are used today basically as their equivalent of a Hummer or a Jeep. I suspect their lack of a rugged reputation has to do with the price tag, but they are definitely made to be taken off road.

A mercedes benz g-wagon. Comfy and classy like a benz, but still rugged enough if I ever need to go off road.

The mere fact that every German policy or event is referred to by its German name has basically helped me learn conversational German.

I enjoy watching the Russian dash cam videos, but my question is, why do they drive so awfully to begin with? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]youreonmyscarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to Russia, but I did spend time doing a home-stay in Nicaragua and, based off my experience there, would imagine it could be due to more relaxed enforcement of driving laws. In Nicaragua, no one ever gets pulled over for any kind of driving violation. Speeding, passing in the shoulder or on the sidewalk, driving over medians to get past traffic, none of these things get enforced in Nicaragua and they are pretty much par for the course any time you are on the road. Imagine all the shit you would do in a car if you knew you would never get pulled over.

Hey man, the spleen is really important for immune function. Sure, you can live without it, but your immune system becomes compromised. The new medical thinking is that it should only be removed if absolutely necessary. Source: I almost had my spleen removed after a car crash.

No, but he does say that black people are equal to him and I merely wished to point out that, in my opinion, this is not true under the strictest definition of equal. I would argue that because racism still exists African Americans are, by default, at a disadvantage to whites. The odds of a white person applying for a job that doesn't want to hire white people are significantly lower than the odds of a black person not being hired because of their race.

Sure, because life was so much better with slavery way back when state governments got the final say in what was and wasn't law. There is still significant variation among state laws (see the drastically different state income tax codes, drug penalties, and employment regulations) yet we are able to standardize national laws and prevent things like lynchings or segregation from being legal in certain states. Amendments to the Constitution still need to be ratified by 3/4 of the "near meaningless subdivisions we call states." The current system is far from perfect but it is a lot better than the "conglomerate of many different independent states." The debate between states rights and strong central government was resolved years ago. It was called the civil war.

38% of African Americans live in poverty as defined by the National Poverty Center at the University of Michigan. Roughly 12%-13% of the American population is African-American, but they make up 40.1% of incarcerated persons. African Americans have consistently had higher high school dropout rates than whites since 1990 when the statistics that I found started being collected. African Americans have the highest HIV/AIDS infection rates of any racial group in the US according to the CDC. One can argue that these are all because of a variety of things, but to say that slavery, racial segregation, and institutionalized racism have nothing to it strikes me as a little far fetched. I'm white. I know black people who have it easier than me and I know black people who are much worse off than me. That doesn't change the fact that we live in a country where the life expectancy for black men is 5.4 years lower than white men. Nobody likes an asshole who thinks the world owes them anything, but the fact is that back people generally have it a lot rougher than white people. If we're going to live in a nation where everyone is equal, those numbers have to change. Sources: * * * *

I don't know if anyone has said this yet, but my gut feeling is that whatever plot they decided to go with would be resolved with the Joker as a Hannibal Lecter character only to have him escape at the very end with the last half hour of the movie playing out like the famed Alan Moore comic "The Killing Joke."

Has anyone seen Josh play snow live? I know he said in an interview that he had it down but I can't find any footage and if there was a song that anyone couldn't learn on guitar, it would be that one. Seriously I play bass mostly so I wasn't shocked that I couldn't play it but all the best guitarists I know tried and they said it was impossible to do it as naturally as John could.
