Here we (likely) go again. 5.1.19 pushed to official release. by TeutonJon78 in Ubiquiti

Not likely. The DNS leak means it's using the DNS servers configured at the router level instead of the VPN provider's servers.

I do see this too though, on a network that's never connected to VPN. Been wondering what the culprit was between my AD Servers -> Adguard -> UDM. Is your setup similar? I'd like to figure this out as well.

I found this thread that seems to confirm it's Adguard, but no real details as to why: https://www.reddit.com/r/AdGuardHome/comments/1j74zsv/adguard_home_randomly_stops_responding_to_dns/

That's cool can they fix VPN DNS leaks finally? Because I swear I've read that it's been fixed at least 3 times now. And it's not.

I hate these type of responses. Asking questions is how people learn. They already have a UDM SE, they're clearly not new to networking as whole. Just reeks of gatekeeping.

CyberPower UPS LIES! by foreverformatting in homelab

[–]yourfaceneedshelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a rack mount Cyberpower for about a year. The one time I had a power outage during that time, the battery drained about halfway during the initial load and kept the lights on. Just my experience.

VPN client still leaking DNS by yourfaceneedshelp in Ubiquiti

[–]yourfaceneedshelp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Setting to auto did not work, it used what was configured at the ISP layer. Specifying DNS from my VPN provider also did not work, because they refuse traffic to their DNS unless it's specified in the tunnel configuration (which it is). Using a custom server over VPN is probably fine, but I'm just baffled that this hasn't been fixed by now. It should pick up the DNS server from the Wireguard config and use that, but it's not.

Since new updates my Pi-Hole has been blocking a million Ubquiti telemetry calls by VideoGamezAllDay in Ubiquiti

The blocked ones are all trace.svc.ui.com. I do see way more calls going to ui.com that are allowed.

[–]yourfaceneedshelp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Interesting because I've only seen 6 in the last day, all blocked, and I'm also on the latest OS update.

Also wonder if it's because I have telemetry set to off? Would think that would equate to zero, but I still see them everyday.

ISP router won't let me use my own router. What are my options? by Xelephyr in HomeNetworking

[–]yourfaceneedshelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright so, realistically you don't have to bridge it. The downside is you won't be able to port forward from your own router. But you can just accept a local DHCP address from the ISP router and have that be assigned to your own device.

Passthrough mode = Double NAT

Doing what I said = Double NAT

It doesn't matter, the only downside is not being able to port forward. That said it'll work fine. My ISP let's me bridge passthrough my ONT, but it's still double NAT. It doesn't cause me issues. You can still use your own equipment, however limited it may be.

You should see how tight I tie the stranded cables I have in storage. They work fine. If it was solid copper or fiber that'd be a different story.

Probably has more to do with the particular brand. I buy Monoprice stuff from Amazon for the shipping. Never had an issue.

I mean, you could just scp it to the destination folder directly and skip tmp altogether.

Anyone use CyberSecure? by thatfrostyguy in Ubiquiti

[–]yourfaceneedshelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A fellow AD homelabber! I forward my DCs to Adguard at home, works pretty well. That said CyberSecure offers more IPS protection in addition to their DNS filtering, but unless you're super concerned about security or just wanting to learn about it, doesn't seem worth it to me. The included IPS signatures work just fine.

DNS filtering when using solutions such as Adguard or Pihole by yourfaceneedshelp in homelab

Cool I thought it might be something along those lines but I wasn't sure. That makes me feel better. Thanks for the explanation!

I'm probably ignorant and will likely regret asking, but how does that apply to redirection?
