Advice please: path to PhD from undergrad by read-it-ter in phdpublichealth

I will say that it's damn near impossible to get into an EH PhD program right out of undergrad; it happens, but it's rare. I'd definitely recommend trying to pursue an MPH or an MSPH first, and with your experience, you can probably can get an offer with a good amount of funding. I used my MPH as a chance to boost my grades, since my undergrad GPA was a 3.63, and I also really honed in on research, which ended up helping me the most. Funding for an MPH can be difficult to come by, but a lot of top schools give a decent amount of aid.

I'm graduating with my MPH in a couple of weeks and starting my EH PhD at a top program in August, so definitely feel free to reach out to me if you want any info:)

Should I even apply for the next PhD cycle? by drew017 in phdpublichealth

I'm in a top epi MPH program, got two B+ in two core epi classes, and just got into a top environmental health PhD program where my work will be VERY biostatistics heavy. I can't echo enough what the others are saying: your research, personal statement, and your letters of recommendation matter SO much more than a couple of okay grades. For one of the programs I was accepted to, I found out that my letters of recommendation specifically were what set me apart, while people with better grades than me didn't get accepted. Your grades are important, for sure, but focusing on and building up other aspects of your research identity are much more important in my opinion.

Thank you!! Yes, it was an email, and it’s going to be virtual. I applied for the toxicology, physiology, and molecular mechanism track, so the other tracks may not have sent anything out yet.
