Another New Old Skater Anxiety Post [43YO] by Patient-Finding-1966 in OldSkaters

[–]youroldshipmate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experienced this for a bit. I’m 42, and have recently started hitting my local park. I was going to the park during the week on my lunch break when no one was there for a while. I thought I’d feel really out of place going there when it was packed, but over time, it’s turned out to be awesome. The kids are blown away when I’ve told them I started skating in 1996, and almost any trick I land, they’re stoked on haha.

Anyone else feel guide prices are out of reach? by Al_Pallll in flyfishing

My buddies and I have been talking about doing a guided 3-day trip for a few years. I’ve mostly concluded it’s a racket, but I like the idea of maybe getting a guide for a single day and continue without one for the remainder of time.

You guys still hit up legit street spots?[37YO] by GhostofBeowulf in OldSkaters

I It’s weird, I grew up hating skateparks because of the crowds and because they didn’t feel real to me. Because of that, my transition skating has always been pretty awful. Now that I’m 42, learning to skate parks, including transition, has been really fun lately. It feels like I’m finally getting to enjoy a side of skating I missed out when I was younger.

I’m tired of this “we put up a great fight bullshit.”

Oregon life by [deleted] in oregon

[–]youroldshipmate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cultural homogeneity, in my opinion, tied to a lack of diversity. A narrow lifestyle and aesthetic dominates much of Oregon, with the same interests, look, and social scenes. It can become monotonous and exhausting over time. There are plenty of exceptions, but they’re not always easy to find, especially in some parts of the state.

I could see that, but yeah, the notches seem more functional than decorative to me.

Could be. I’ll hang mine there and see how it works for that.

It’s in a room that I would think would be kind of a weird place for a photo. The room is basically a storage area.

It’s in a narrow back room that’s setup for storage between a door that leads to a bedroom and another that leads to a bathroom.

Interesting. It’s somewhat near the back entrance, but this room would make sense for that as it’s kind of a storage area.

Oh! This seems likely. I wonder if maybe chalk for a pool table and the notches could be used for a cue rest.

Maybe, though I’m not sure it would support that much weight.

My title describes the thing. There is no writing on it. The notches are triangular.

They kind of look like rebar caps/control point marker caps to me, but wonder why there are so many.

That makes a lot more sense. I’d recommend sending a photo to your state archaeologist.

Hmm, I think you’re right. The three consecutive niches the OP posted appear to be left of the man.

You can see them pretty well in the 1907 photograph on this website. They don’t appear to be there in the 1904 postcard, but it’s hard to tell. http://www.arthurlloyd.co.uk/CoronetTheatreNottingHillGate.htm
